Roberta's 3rd LP is quite a work of art. Where to begin? Each song is worth its weight in gold. Every once in a great while, an artist will perform a song so perfectly, so definitively, you might as well shelve the song for all time. Case in point: "Bridge Over Troubled Water." The German language poet Rainer Maria Rilke wrote that "every angel is terrifying." Roberta's heart-wrenching rendition of this classic is so gorgeous it is terrifying and I can't listen to it too often. It is too painfully beautiful. "Sunday and Sister Jones," my second favorite track on this LP, is nothing short of astonishing.
On the subject of legendary performers -- it is often said they created their best work early-on in their careers: Roberta's "Quiet Fire" is no exception. While Roberta created an enormous body of beautiful music throughout her long career, "Quiet Fire" (along w. "First Take" and "Chapter Two") stand like giants in her oeuvre.
I was watching the TV show The Americans and this song, To Love Somebody, was played towards the end and knew right away it was Roberta but did not recognize the song. I went to Amazon and found the song on this album and bought it. I bought this from Stuff in Tom's Garage in NYC. Thanks Tom! This CD was well worth the price. I love it. I am thrilled I added this to my CD collection. I love Roberta Flack and I think this is her best CD. Super Fast shipping, excellent packaging and item as described and shown. Highly recommend.
Just a really fine musical experience. Remember it from the 70s. Needed to have/hear again. Lost my other copy long ago. Was expensive ($30.00 ish) but I don't care.
Awesome record. RF's version of Bridge Over Troubled Water is a timeless treasure. So damn good. The record itself was in great condition. I got it sooner than the estimated shipping time even. I would buy from this seller again and I would recommend the album to anyone.
I had to order this item used from Japan. The quality of the item, as well as the CD sound, was very good as advertised. I also received it sooner than expected, and I am happy with the purchase.
I have all of Roberta's albums...we go way back... I'm not one to be star struck, however, I've enjoyed listening to Roberta Flack's voice for many years. Now I'm able to download her on my Kindle, (A Christmas present from my children).
I had this first on vinyl got played to destruction so time to update.Saw the ridiculous price so downloaded the mp3 version.After 2 days of to-ing and fro-ing between amazon (and hours on the phone) and myself, we finally managed to do it (problems with their downloader and my computer apparently.)However it WAS worth the hassle as I hadnt played it for ages and had forgotten how beautiful this is .Not one dud track on it. This is early roberta and ,like most artistes,the early music is the purer before the big orchestrations creep in and the commercial takes over and blandness/laziness take over like some of her later recordings. Her voice rings out truly and the minimum backing and beautiful background voices make this an audio joy.This really is a stunning album and I actually think this is her best
I bought this CD for my husband. He's very happy with it, but when he played it while I was baking I found I loved it too. Great nostalgic music, well worth buying .
Just outstanding recording of one of the most talented female singers, particularly the version of Bridge Over Troubled Water..........goose-bumps, or what!!!!!!!!!!!!
