Will not be reading more by this author. Amazes me that so elemental a story gets published. Just nothing to challenge a reader

The plot isn't bad, but it reads sort of like a play. Not enough description of prople, places, or things. Only the weather gets a proper nod. But if you want a super fast read that doesn't require much thought it is good. I'm working my way through the entire collection.

Surprisingly very good. I say surprisingly because this book is what looks to be four short stories which as it turns out are in chronological order so you get a time line and in the end it is actually a novel. The first two stories are good but nothing exceptional. The third story is much better but it is the fourth story that pulls it all together and explains the hints to their backgrounds given in the first three stories. I'm hooked and can't wait to read the next book. In short, the book is told through the eyes of Lady Hardcastle's lady's maid Florence (Flo). Both Lady Hardcastle and Flo are in their middle aged years, relaxing in the country and as they come along, solving murders, before returning to London in the fourth story. The story takes place in early 1900's England leading towards WWI. Both characters are extremely likable and their banter will have you chuckling your way through this read.

Murder mysteries are not my normal reading material, but I thoroughly enjoyed the wit and banter of the two main characters. The stage is set in 1908 England and as we fly through the pages of this easy read we are treated to a genuine good time. The plot keeps you guessing yet makes you feel like you have a handle on who the murderer is only to find a twist that heads you in another direction. I recommend this and T.E.Kinsey's other 2 books in this series. I actually laughed out loud, which I almost never do.

This is a terrific new series. This first book includes several complete stories. The narrator is the Lady's maid, quite a personality herself. The writing is quick, clever, intelligent and still easily read. Although the stories are complete in themselves, there is the life thread of the two women that runs throughout allowing for uninterrupted narrative. Even as the present (1908) unfolds, the history of the women is revealed in easy and meaningful ways so that we slowly learn what has brought them to this place in their personal history. I am looking forward to the second book in the series and I will definitely read this one again. A Quiet Life in the Country is storytelling at its best.

I liked the stories and the characters, but I found that for the early 1900's, Lady Hardcastle and Armstrong weren't entirely believable for the era. It's not anything I could put my finger on exactly...except that they seemed to be characters from 2014 placed into 1909. One thing that seemed discordant was when the ladies were unfazed by sexual behavior that in 1909 would have been scandalous.

What a delightful story. I am reading more so PLEASE keep them coming. I could see this as a Most Entertaining light-hearted mystery series.
But I will content to read the adventures of Lady Hardcastle and her companion.
The are very intuitive, knowledgeable, clever, etc etc etc. I love these gals....They have had some amazing adventures in the past and most certainly in the future time of the stories as you tell them to us T.E. Kinsey!!!!

This book grows on you! The mysteries that keep piling up, the myriad, well developed characters, the plot twists, and of course the two charming protagonists. The teasing glimpses of their past adventures made me think there might have been a previous novel about them, but reading other reviews told me that these brief flashbacks are an intriguing part of the stories and will gradually unfold. So glad I purchased the three books. On to the next!

Low expectations when I began but was quickly entranced by characters, plot and settings. It accurately captured many of the aspects of English country life which I loved in my past without making them saccharine or predictable. Made such a nice change from the gore and gratuitous violence in many books now. I especially liked that the main characters are odd women for their time, but very much in sync. A relief from the current wave of female lead detectives who are so flawed that it's hard to know how they came to their positions of power. Great read.

I thought I had just gotten grumpy and unwilling to be pleased. The last couple books tried of new authors turned me off. The sentence structure was juvenile and the plots nearly non-existent. But others loved them. But it was not me. I loved this book and just ordered the second. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, who are witty and intelligent. Having the pint of view as that of the "servant" added an interesting twist. I usually do not like short stories nearly as much as novels, but I liked these very much, perhaps because the same characters continued and one event led into others. Most of all I enjoyed the wit. There were times I did indeed laugh out loud. The descriptions, especially analogies, were often highly entertaining.
