It's a shame that this CD is so hard to find. This is thesequel to Bernstein's better known opera Trouble in Tahiti. I can't see why this recording seems to have been discontinued to the US. The vocalists are excellent and the music is wonderful. I believe that this is one of Bernstein's best pieces. It's such a shame it is so unrecognized.
This piece, one of the final works completed by Bernstein, pen, is extraordinarily hard to find, but very imporant in Bernstein's oervre. This piece, which incorporates his eariler seven-scene opera Trouble in Tahiti (in A Quiet Place it's incorporated as a series of flashbacks to when Dinah was still alive), as the plot surrournds Sam and his family after Dinah's death, beginning at her funeral. This and his little known work Missa Brevis, also written very late, are must haves for the Bernstein collector.
Much criticized at the time, especially for the libretto, this one full length opera by Leonard Bernstein today seems brilliant and almost prescient in its subject matter. A great cast conducted by the composer makes the most of the gorgeous music A must for anyone who loves modern America Music or Bernstein's great Broadway scores.
