Every single chapter hit me with a stunning new insight about the way I communicate, connect (or disconnect) from people, and navigate my way through the world. I had inklings about some of my weak spots as an introverted personality, but after this book I can now point to very specific strategies I use with people that are good and not so good, and the protective mechanisms I call on whenever I’m stressed.
And an awesome unexpected side effect—within two days of starting this book I ended up deeply bonding with my husband over the conversations we had about it (he’s an introvert too).
I highly recommend this book to anyone passionate about personal growth and/or insatiably curious about psychology. Brenda Knowles definitely delivers on both, in a big way.
New concepts are explained well and the author provides very impactful personal experiences that are so relatable.
A chapter in the book concerns the struggles that introverts have with converting their thoughts and ideas into tangible actions and applications. Being ‘stuck in one’s head’ is a phenomenon that most introverts would know. Brenda stresses on the importance of not remaining stuck and suggests ways to translate the internal energy into something the outside world would appreciate. It teaches us to value our state of authenticity and make deep connections with others.
Other chapters deal with attachment theory and explain the different types of relationships, the problems that could arise and how to counter them. The author has also provided many references to other works in the same genre, introducing us to more good writing. In all, the book is a fantastic one and I would recommend it to anyone interested in the genre.
