Poetry is powerful. It can take us places few other artforms can. This is because of the way its personal use of voice and story and close reflection resonate with our own experience and situation. Poetry meets us where we are. It speaks a good word. Is a kind companion for the journey we are on.
These poems are contemplatively Christian in outlook and theology. They are heartfelt in their examination of harder times. They are incisive in their questions and confident in their assumption that we are not alone, that God is with us.
My other free-verse poems have been published in journals and magazines such as Crux, Ekstasis, Presence, Island Writer, Prairie Messenger, Alive Now, Prairie Journal, and Transition Mental Health Journal among others.

About the author

DAYNA MAZZUCA -- Contemplative Christian Poet, Author & Speaker.
I am a former journalist and writing instructor with a BA in Political Philosophy and a diploma in Journalism Arts. I'm also fairly well steeped in the disciplines that support spiritual formation and believe in engaging deeply with theology and how it shows up in our lives.
I've published 10 books of poems. Free verse with layered meaning. One book on the spiritual disciplines specifically is called "Longings of the Soul, a poetic response." The seven disciplines covered are: Solitude, Silence, Contemplation, Forgiveness, Presence, Vocational Alignment, and Sabbath-rest.
I've published on the 5 Spiritual Gifts and host workshops and retreats on the same. My latest book on this topic is "5 Navigators: aligning with our God-given spiritual gift." I have an online course that touches on much of the same called "The Power of Authentic Storytelling."
