The Quikpod Pro is an excellent accessory for lightweight point 'n shoot cameras, especially the newer generation with wide-angle lenses. It extends 18.5" Hold it at arm's length and you can get you and a lot of scenery in the picture. And it is a lot easier to carry the Quickpod Pro around than a tripod. I wanted something heftier, though, and decided to give the Quickpod DSLR a try.
Its very big brother, the Quikpod DSLR claims to be able to handle DSLRs and other cameras weighing up to 8 pounds. It collapses to just about the extended length of the Quickpod Pro, about 18", and extends to a mind-blowing 53".
I tried it with a 3+ pound DSLR and the Quickpod DSLR held it at full extension without bending or bowing. However, that weight at the end of a 4.5 foot handheld boom is difficult to manage. Quikpod includes a gel pad that you can use to hold the unit against your abdomen or chest for more control. It comes in handy.
With a lighter weight camera, however, the Quikpod DSLR shines. Take off the zoom lens from your Nikon or Canon and use it with a fixed length lens. Or use it with point 'n shoot that has a rotatable display for some really wow shots, like several feet about your head in a crowd. (The bummer, of course, is that you'll have to use the self-timer unless you have one of the few point 'n shoots that has a remote control.)
You can get high and low viewpoint shots.
The Quikpod DSLR is well engineered and well=made.Read more ›

When I wasn't snow boarding, I managed to get some great mountain scenery as well. Even better is that me and all my friends were able to get in the shot and didn't have to wait for strangers to take photos for us. When it is fully extended it's easy to get a big group in the shot.
Really pleased with this buy.
The second one was NIB and worked as advertised. It has 3 sections, each with its own easy open / close cam to control adjustment. The top, where the camer mounts, is removable so you can access the screw, and the mount slides in and out for quick adjustments. There is a screw on the top to adjust angle. It is light weight and seems sturdy enough.
My complaints - the locking mechanisms, especially while extended, allow for some rotational play in the arm. This will translate as vibrations in your camera, and if you're recording video you get a lot of noise transferred up through the monopod as it rattles around due to the loose fit.
Additionally, it's not easy to rotate the camera mount. Yes, you can change the angel, but if you wanted to go from the camera facing you (selfie time!) to the camera facing forward, you need to unmount the clip at the top, loosen the screw that goes into the camera base, rotate the camera, tighten everything back down, and clip it back together. Having that be adjustable would be a huge plus.
Lastly, I don't see how you'd ever use this with a camera much larger than a GoPro, mainly because of the weight. It would be damn near impossible to hold this thing outstretched with a big DSLR on the end, and you'd be shaking so much that your photos would be worthless.Read more ›
