While reading this book, there were times I cringed because sometimes the truth hurts. I ask myself, how far is too far? Is feminism getting too out of a hand, or is it actually moving towards equality? What's too liberal and what's too conservative?
These are some of the questions I asked myself. You can tell when the author is in his groove; when the author goes off about his personal experiences in Seattle, New York, and in Asia. But the problem is that he doesn't guide the reader about why his opinions/views have changed so drastically. If he spent the time describing how he felt during the transformation, the even minuscule life changing events that made the person who he is today, I think this would've been a really solid piece of literature. Instead, we get a 'I was a liberal, inferior, Asian man in Seattle', to 'Ok 'love' will not save the word and now it's time to capitalize so f' these punk kids ruining my father's building' to becoming a womanizer and being the master of 'the game'.
A great analogy to this book of the transformation I'd like to deeply read about is comparing the character 'Walter White' from Breaking Bad. Walter White was a science teacher that decided to make crystal meth in order to pay for his medical bills and by the end of the TV series he was a completely changed man. Season by season, episode by episode, we saw his transformation and we felt that.
So a tip to the author is to get into those mini details or those 'throwaway' episodes if you will so that as a reader we can be feel just as transformed as you became. Otherwise, I feel like there are some missing pieces and the analogies the author made with the man stuck in the subway station and the Facebook likes chapter doesn't tie in with the overall message that he's trying to tell people.
All in all, I'm excited to see what other books this author comes out with, and I hope he takes my constructive criticism to heart.

This book was unlike anything else i've ever read. It made me laugh, cringe, feel uncomfortable/awkward at times and even a little bit sad, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it. The author is funny, ironic and very crude at times but he somehow manages to bring up deep philosophical musings and make you think hard about the world and your beliefs. Highly recommend it!!

This was such a well written book. I didn't always agree with the author but his ability to creatively articulate his point of view was one of a kind. He helped me think critically on a variety of subjects ranging from religion to being an Asian American Man. Great job Bok Choy.
