When this book says for beginners, it is not kidding. The book is very, very simple. But if you are a real beginner, this book does not waste time trying to explain too much. In a straight-forward manner, it tells you the techniques you need to begin your first quilt. The photographs are the star of the book. The photographs are clear and complement the text.

The book is very short. When I need to go back to basic skills, however, this is the book to which I will turn.

Pictures great help. Lots of different types of quilting. Recommended for new quilters. For more advanced quilters it is a good review.

This isn't a real book -- it reads like a fragment cut out of some other book, and indeed, refers several times to "the projects in this book," when there are no projects in the book. It covers some, but by no means all, of the steps involved in making a quilt. At least the price was right. I got this book free.

This is a good book to look at if you curious about quilting. I actually was briefly considering doing quilting so I down loaded this to kind of get an idea of what I was getting into. The book is really abrupt and poorly organized, but it does contain information on both HAND STITCHING and MACHINE STITCHING. So, theres both in there if your interested. It had some info on the english paper piecing method, which inspired me to actually look more into quilting, which I now absolutly adore, so definatly worth down loading just to get a general idea about quilting...I'm actually keeping it to use as an "outline" of where I should be in the quilt making process so I don't forget a step or jump ahead. It's not indepth enough for anything more than that, but it does make a great guide line.

there is hardly any information here that makes sense to get the book. If you really want to get a beginners book on quilting, this is not the book. I thought the first idea was cute, but that was all that was in it. there are less than 20 pages in this "guide".

Easy read for beginners. I found an old binding technique that can be used when the need to finish a quilt in a hurry arises. This is a book that can be used again and again and passed down to future beginner quilters.

There are plenty of close up photographs of how-to quilting basics presented in this book to allow beginners to feel confident as they assemble materials and begin to cut and sew their first quilt projects.

Hand piecing of quilt blocks and machine piecing techniques are covered including the English paper piecing technique which is shown for the Grandmother's Flower Garden pattern which is made up of small hexagon shapes. The close ups of each technique are detailed, but would be best viewed on a color-capable Kindle or Kindle application in order to see all of the details. Pressing and cutting tips are given with an overview of using rotary techniques and equipment.

Assembling of the "quilt sandwich" with fabric, batting, and backing is discussed and illustrated. Marking the quilt top, hand quilting and machine quilting are discussed as well as a mention of tied quilts as an alternative to traditional quilting as a finish. Again, lots of detailed photographs of each step are shown. Binding the finished quilt with self-binding or bias binding completes the project.

Most of the sources at the end of the book are listings for UK companies with a few US and Australian companies, but finding local sources should not be difficult for most readers using the Internet as a starting place.

A nice touch is the addition of a link to the author's website for full-sized templates for the projects discussed in the book.

Recommended.
