Will Adams has returned home after being on the road for 10 years. He too has secrets that haunt him after the death of his brother 10 years ago. Will is the only child his parents have now and his mother is wanting him to settle down. Will is unaware that his mother has taken it upon herself and ordered him a bride. When he first sees Quinlan get off the train he is taken by her beauty and poise, but he also notices how frightened and skittish she is.
In her Mail-Order-Brides series Sylvia gives you an insight into what it was like for the brave women who made the choice to marry this way. It had to be frightening to travel so far only to meet and marry a stranger the moment you arrived. What would this man be like? Would he be kind and good, or would he be cold, mean and demanding.
I enjoyed Quinlan’s Quest because we were able to return to Zenith and check in on Meg and the other Lipstick and Lead girls, plus meet some new and interesting people. I hope we can see more of them in future books. This is a stand-alone book with a HEA.
The characters were nicely developed. I enjoyed the Lipstick & Lead gals and got a kick out of Will's mom and her rush to have a grandchild. I mourned the loss of a friend and cheered the ending. You will enjoy this quick-moving story and look forward to the next, as I did.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
The Alphabet Mail Order Brides
by Sylvia McDaniel
Quinlan Clark was taken to the orphanage, when tragedy and violence took her from an abusive home. Out of something so violent the orphanage became her safe haven. Her memories at the orphanage with her friends were the best thing to ever happen to her. Now her live will be turned upside down. She’s to become a mail order bride and all the violence of her childhood have come to haunt her. She replies to a man from Zenith Texas and hopes her life will be better than her mother’s.
Will Adams has been chasing the man that needlessly killed his brother. For ten years he’s been living a life that his family had no idea about. After his mother’s many request that he settle down and give her grandkids, he reluctantly agrees to settle down. Unbeknownst to him that she had already found him a bride, and that she would be arriving in the next few days. Fearing for the worst Will is taken aback at the beautiful woman that he meets at the train station. But their life takes turn when Will’s past comes knocking at the newlyweds door.
This was an amazingly touching story, fast paced and intriguing with secrets that keep you at the edge of your seat. A vividly portrayed western romance. I also enjoyed the secondary characters, and the witty dialogue. A pleasure to read Sylvia McDaniel romance weather Contemporary or Historical she has the magical gift to transport you in the books world.
I HIGHLY recommend all of her work.
I recieved a complimentary copy from the author. This is my unbiased opinion.
Will Adams’ mother told him she was dying, which didn’t alarm him much anymore since she said it daily. She wanted him to marry so she could see him settled before she died. When Will did nothing about it, his mother ordered a bride for him! Fortunately, the young woman was a good choice. But will secrets drive them apart? Will Quinlan’s horrible fear of men be too much for her to deal with? Or can each of them get over their pasts, trust in each other, and move on to a future together?
This was a well written story that I enjoyed reading. The reader could feel the fears of the young women as they tried to pick a future husband, not knowing how to make the best choice. The characters are charming and presented well to the reader to get to know them a bit more deeply. The story line was good and the pacing worked well. Grab a copy of the book and share their adventure.
