This is old school. No regenerating health bars (or health bars in general!) just one hit to your ship and poof! back at the last check point. The game is gorgeous, music is great and the awesome array of ships at your disposal is mind blowing. I've spent 40 plus hours in it so far and I still keep coming back for more. I have achieved the 1CC runs on R typer difficulty and now tackling the max difficulty 1CC runs. They are still updating the amount of ships (currently at 58) and adding dlc throwback stages. Good investment. Long live R Type!.

This game has horrible review in Japan. I thought the CG was not bad, especially the background. However, some CG's are PS1 quality. The worst part is when you thought you dodged a bullet/enemy yet you get killed. Once you get killed, you are forced back to a certain part of the stage and in many cases it is extremely difficult to proceed.

Irem used to produce one of the finest shooting games, but this one did not impress me. R-Type Final PS2 version had a great review so I bought a used one and it's on the way.

This is an old school video game. You die over and over again while playing the same levels over and over again, until you are simultaneously so good that you can ace it, and have access to upgrades that make it so easy that you are never dying.
That is the point, that is the joy.

I love vertical and horizontal shooters, and R-type is by far one of my favorites. This game is no different, challenging game play and looks great in HDR. Definitely a must have for all fans of R-Type.

Awesome playability and modern vibrant visuals, this Shoot em' up title is sure to please. The only minor gripe is the DLC purchase that you have to buy separately. Since buying this physical copy should have at least yielded the addition of the digital content already included in it's pricing. Such underhanded marketing practices should be discouraged.

this game looks like a ps1 game. unbelieveable what they have produced, from all this possible power. the soundtrack is awful, a simple techo-track collection, does not match to the game at all. animations are rediculous. the only good thing is the gameplay, but its hard to play against the enemies, soundtrack and graphics. hands off this game, it comes 20 years too late.
