My only other nit-pick is the rope is not the best quality, This rope seems to fray easily and will probably need to be replaced after a year or so. But for the cost, this device is well worth it and I would buy another if I got another boat.
The previous comments bout not pulling the boat up far enough are no longer true, in that they have redesigned the system with adjust able straps so you can get the boat pretty tight to the ceiling. I'm 6 foot tall and my ceiling is just over 8 feet and I can walk under my boats.
I will buy another for my other boat. I hope this has been helpful

You do need to shorten the straps that hold up your kayak if you want to hang it close to the ceiling. The straps are pretty long and if you don't fold them over or shorten them, your kayak will droop pretty low.
The photo accompanying this product is a bit deceiving since it will not permit the kayak to go as close to the ceiling as shown due to the size of the pully systems and the width of the straps that come with the kit. If the straps could be shortened (they come sewn to a fixed size) you could gain several more inches. As such, our kayak is hanging only about 5.5' off the floor. It's OK, but even knowing it's there doesn't stop you from banging your head every so often.
Good kit for the price. Certainly does the job.
The Good: It came as advertised and was shipped promptly. The package read that it supports 125lbs (25lbs more than advertised.) The instructions are not as bad as some of the reviews state so either they have gotten much better or people don't know how to read. It was only $25...
The Bad: As other reviews have stated, the rope is pretty cheap and will need to be replaced. I have just used the hoist once so far and the rope is shredding like crazy. I found one just like it at Wal-Mart for $24 in the kayak section (plus no shipping costs.)
The Ugly: The plastic snaps used to hold the kayak on are not strong enough to support the advertised weight. I had just finished rigging the hoist and attached it to my kayak (which weighs 68lbs) and lifted it about 4 feet off the ground and one of the cheap plastic pieces broke sending my kayak to the hard concrete below. Luckily my kayak is fine but I wasn't expecting the piece to break when my kayak is well below the supposed 125lb supported weight (even below the 100lb weigh limit advertised.) I have attached pictures of the broken plastic piece that sent my kayak to the floor for your viewing pleasure. I have since replaced the "belts with the cheap plastic snaps" with some ratchet tie downs that I had in the truck. They seem to do the trick perfectly. The kayak doesn't sit too high off the ground but it is high enough to fit our small Mercedes c-class under it just fine.

Overall good product. I give it 4 stars because the instructions were a bit tough to read and were limited. The Kayak has been hanging in the garage for 4 months without falling!Published 15 hours ago by Shmoothy
This works fine and I have bought 3 of them. The one big caveat is that I don't like the rope included. Read morePublished 2 days ago by Michael Goode
Put this up a few days ago in the garage. Went pretty well hanging it from a 2x4 screwed to the ceiling joists. Read morePublished 4 days ago by Amazon Customer
I use this for my 10ft kayak. It works great. The straps for the kayak body are nice and wide, they are also adjustable! Read morePublished 4 days ago by troubleshooter
Nice alternative to wall straps but obviously still limits the wall space due to getting the kayak up and down. Read morePublished 6 days ago by HealthyRN27
