the hero, Ronan.
SPOILERS included below
I loved Ronan despite him being a cold blooded killer. He was so traumatized by
his past and it left him without any social skills. He would and did
anything for the heroine, including kill for her. I never doubted
his love for her. I loved reading how she helped
him learn how to live and give meaning to his life and visa versa.
I loved that Ronan gave her his v-card and was only ever with her. I wish she did the same
but given that they are both adults I understand why she was no longer a virgin
when she met him. In fact, she had been sleeping with men under duress, which
There are potential triggers in this story including child abuse,
attempted rape of a child & physical abuse. Therefore if any of those
things bother you then either don't read this story or skip over them.
The child abuse and attempted rape is in flashback form.
But for me? This one was WAY to depressing. So many books in this genre give us either the H or h (or both), damaged in some way. Physically, emotionally, mentally, psychologically. Reaper? He had ALL of that damage. In SPADES! No one would have survived what he did. It was way beyond anything I've ever read. And I read a lot of MC and mafia books. In Reaper, the author spent the first 65% of the book telling us, in unbearably gruesome detail, how it happened. It kept me in a constant state of depression! I was emotionally drained. I almost put it down, many times, thinking how in the hell can the author give us a HEA with this guy.
I like ALL the feels in a book. This one mostly touched on the bad feels. In the extreme.
So, if you like super dark sh_t, give this book a try. Just be prepared to go to the dark place for quite a bit of the story.
Ronan works for the Irish Mafia in Boston.
He wears suits and glasses and may look like a business man but is actually quite deadly. As the name suggests, he reaps life.
Ronan is an intense character. He speaks little, does what Crow asks of him and always, always he watches Sasha.
Sasha works as a dancer in a club run by the mafia.
She and Ronan have very little but have an intense connection. They share secrets that can hurt them and an attraction neither of them want, but can't deny.
It was agonizing reading about Ronan and Sasha wanting each other but staying away from one another. You could see the love and the hate as they both fought their emotions.
But in the end, they had to give in to what they were feeling and what a glorious scene that was!!
I love a book with strong female characters and Sasha is that. She did what she had to do to support her mother and survive. Some might look at it as taking the easy way out, but Sasha's life is anything but easy.
She knows the world she was pulled into, she plays by the rules, she doesn’t really believe in HEA but still thinks about Ronan, he is the one person that grounds her.
I loved that about both Ronan and Sasha, they had each other, even when they weren’t together. The presence of the other person was enough to get them thought.
They were both such complex and damaged persons, no one deserved an HEA more than they did.
After all the drama and heartache (A. Zavarelli broke my heart, but she does that with each book) the conclusion to the story and epilogue especially were magnificent.
If you love Mafia romance with lots of action, drama, strong heroine and a virgin alpha male who protects his loved ones at all costs, this is the book for you.
Another 5 star read from A. Zavarelli!
