I have owned ReaMix for a few years, and of course I grab the User Guide that Mr. Francis so generously makes available most every update, so I had been thru those 2 a lot before grabbing this Reaper Power book.

Overall, it is a mixture of both the ReaMix & User Guide, with about 20-25% new stuff....it overlaps a lot with the other two IMHO. The advantage is some new tracks to play with.

Bottom line, if you use Reaper grab the User Guide. If you already own the fine ReaMix book, then I would not recommend this one. If you DON'T own ReaMix, then grab this Power Guide because it will include more information than the ReaMix - User Guide combo.

Overall, it is OK....

Reaper is a feature-filled and highly customizable DAW that is surprisingly inexpensive. The number of features and customizing it affords, also makes it somewhat complex and difficult to grasp at times. It does publish a comprehensive manual on line that is updated, as the DAW is frequently updated. Reaper Power is a good alternative to the on line version, as it is easier to read and mark up, compared to the web version, even though I can view the manual and Reaper side by side on my 24 inch monitor.

I have already discovered useful plug-ins and tips in the beginning chapters of the book. There is also a CD with exercises and other information that I have not even looked at yet. If you don't have or want internet access for a music dedicated computer, the CD also has a copy of Reaper and the PDF manual on it as well - both don't take up much room or processing power.

Overall, the book is a good investment for me, especially at Amazon.com pricing. It presents similar material in a different way, which is always beneficial when learning new software as complex as Reaper. Although I have demo or LE versions of other DAWs, I chose Reaper over ones like Sonar, because I liked the layout and customizing features of Reaper's midi editor. In addition, Reaper is constantly improving and also has a forum of enthusiastic and helpful users.

In sum, I would recommend this book for new users of Reaper. For a few extra bucks, you will get a better understanding of how to use this amazing software. You will also save many dollars more in the long run if you chose Reaper as your first or primary DAW. Unless you are a recording professional, why pay hundreds for features and expensive upgrades you may never need or use with the big company brands?

What impressed me the most about this Reaper DAW software guide is that you can learn new ways of doing things instantly. You don't have to read chapter one through the end, rather you can start any where where you need help in. Just look up in the table of contents what you need answers to and turn to that page to learn new ways of doing things in Reaper.

This book shows you short cuts and teaches you the right way of doing things most effeciently in Reaper, and also teaches you many many things that you never knew you could do with Reaper.

I highly recommend this book for Reaper fans out there ! Great informative book on detailed information regarding everything you have to know and need to know in the Reaper DAW Universe !!!

I had already purchased and read "ReaMix" and "Reaper User Guide" by the same author, so I knew I wanted to order "Reaper Power" as soon as it came out. That was a move that I'm happy I made. The author writes in such a way that he is easy to understand, but not overly simple.

Every time I pick up "Reaper Power" I learn something new. With chapters on mixing, audio and midi editing, how to use the supplied plug-ins properly, and more, there are tricks hidden all through the book. One area that I especially appreciate is his explanations of the many settings that can be made in the preferences dialog area.

Buy the book. I believe you'll be glad you did, especially if you didn't wake up on your first day on earth with all the intricacies of Reaper already embedded in your mind.

I'd thoroughly recommend this book to just about anyone who uses REAPER.

It's real strength lies not just in its comprehensive content but in the way it ties the different pieces together to help you understand how to use this program, all the way from setting up REAPER right thru recording, editing, mixing etc. to burning a CD. I had never realized before, for example, just how important it is to get preferences and setting right to really get the best from this software.

This, plus the dozens of sample files project provided and hands-on exercises and examples really makes this book a "must have", in my opinion.

I am an avid podcaster and home recordist, and I do the vast majority of my work in REAPER. Geoff's book is an invaluable daily reference to not only the ins and outs of REAPER, but a comprehensive set of best practices. The CD includes the REAPER trial version, as well as a number of time saving templates and keyboard maps.

I have all of Geoff's books on REAPER, and this one is by far my favorite...

Still some good stuff in this, but there's a newer version and a digital version is available for free online at the Reaper site. I wish you could get the updated hard-copy here but I couldn't find it. There's a link to an updated hard copy at the Reaper site.
Edit: Been several weeks now and I'm glad I got it after all. Reaper of course is an awesome DAW.
