What in the H E double hockey sticks did I read????!!!! Oh. My. Gosh. Becky! Jacade and Ivy slay every idea, every expectation, every experience associated with the word relationship in Rectify! This second installment is by far the best of the two books although book one is totally awesome sauce!!!!
We have in Rectify the underhanded and gritty underbelly of the mafia (love it!), this on again off again love thing between Jacade and Ivy (their bed play is so hot it could heat up the state of Alaska for an entire year), and the mystery of who is Ivy (it's a wonder she's not enshrined in gold) ???!!!! Uh yeah....Ivy's identity gonna definitely blow you away and it's gonna definitely bring the madness in book three, Remedy. I'm ready for the madness....I've got my survival kit ready.....
Five gazillion stars because Jacade and Ivy have definitely found their very own space in my heart! Rectify knocked the ball out the field, court, the entire friggin hemisphere!
These new layers of complexity reminded me a bit of how I felt while watching "A Game of Thrones". You are tricked, at the beginning, into focusing on plots and characters that are compelling enough on their own, but later discover that something so much bigger is happening and that you are in the middle of a more intricate and satisfying story than you had ever imagined. By the end of the book, instead of just caring about Ivy and Jacade, I found myself deeply invested in an extended cast of characters and their vividly illustrated world.
One of the most interesting elements of this series that we discover in Rectify is the "non-mafia" twist on the mafia sub-genre. Though the organization we are exposed to is involved in organized crime, it is not a traditional mafia organization. This detail creates additional intrigue by building an environment of slightly different motivations, allegiances, and structure than we would normally see alongside a mafia plot. And the cliffhanger at the end is so unacceptably unresolved that you won't be able to stop yourself from rolling directly into third book.
Again, I think M.K. Gilher did an excellent job at bringing us right back to where we left off in book 1 and giving us a curve ball from time to time to thicken the plot.
I felt that book 2, Rectify, is a bit more intense. I feel that when danger was lurking the connection between Jacade and Ivy was more explosive. Jacade is more demanding and is truly in awe of Ivy. I feel that Jacade doesn’t want to lose Ivy and will do anything to protect her. What can be better than that for a book boyfriend? A hot mysterious man who; is a Dr, who knows how to handle himself, who is rough around the edges, who looks at your like you are heaven on earth, and he is the sinner for wanting to do dirty things with you? And he fulfils every dirty thing he wants to do with you! Ahaha
However, the love he feels for Ivy truly is pure and good, and he has loved her for so long that he made decisions through out his life thinking of her. The plot thickens more secrets are revealed. Ivy gets upset and rightfully so, she is starting to piece together her life and is about to face the mafia. A mafia she never thought she would have to confront.
What I like even more in this story is that Ivy isn’t weak. We know she is sassy and we laugh at her inner dialogue, but she is now determined to protect Jacade, herself, and their love. She is starting to see clearly why Jacade did the things he did, and is just starting to believe in their love, when it all comes crashing down.
We were also introduced to secondary characters. There is a couple on the horizon, but for me, there is Jacade’s brother, and he is in this D room scene and I just have to know more about him!!!
With that being said, the way book 2 ends, I feel stronger because we are witnessing two people risk their lives for one another. The intrigue and danger are still lurking and I am so curious how this is all going to be resolved. I really don’t want this to end! Maybe, I am a sucker! Ahah But I love the twists and turns, the sexiness, the danger, the erotic, the pure, and I want to stay with Jacade and Ivy for a bit more. I am looking forward to the next book and more from M.K. Gilher.
