Q&As for Solar Panel

What may affect the efficiency of Reolink Solar Panel?

Your Reolink Solar panel may not be able to keep your camera fully charged on days that are snowy, cloudy, gloomy, or rainy or during periods of extensive use (frequent access or constant triggers).

External factors, such as shade, temperature, weather, and amount of dust or debris on its surface, may also affect the effective of Reolink Solar Panel in generating electricity.

How to optimize the efficiency of Reolink Solar Panel?

The amount of energy produced by the Reolink Solar Panel depends on several factors: average sun exposure, weather conditions, tilt angle, and dust or debris.

To optimize the effectiveness of your Reolink Solar panel, you may:

* Mount your Reolink solar panel in well-lit places and avoid locations like the shadow of trees, buildings, or other obstacles to ensure sufficient sunlight.

* Adjust the direction of your Reolink solar panel to face the true south (in the northern hemisphere) or the true north (in the southern hemisphere) and tilt it to the appropriate angle according to your latitude to ensure maximum sun exposure.

* Wipe the surface of the Reolink solar panel with wet tissue or cloth regularly to remove the dust and deris on the panel's surface.

Reolink Solar Panel working in low temperature

The lowest operating temperature for Reolink Argus 2 is 14°F (-10°C). Low temperature will significantly slow down the chemical reaction of the camera's batteries and will therefore make the cameras to indicate low battery level.

For the safety of your camera and the solor panel, please charge the batteries in temperature between 0°C and 45°C (32-113°F) and do not use the camera if the temperature drops below 14°F (-10°C).

The Reolink solar panel keeps my Reolink Argus PT camera charged
It works great and is easy to install. I didn’t have any issue except figuring out the best place to mount it. It needs to be mounted so it receives the most sun for best charging results. Where I mounted mine was only about 4 - 5 feet from my Reolink Argus PT camera. With its approximately 14 foot long charging cable this meant I just needed to coil up the excess cable “ no big deal “. If needed Reolink offers on their web site reolink.com an extension cable of about 15 foot long. The solar panel cable end that goes into the camera fits very nice with out apparently any leaking but I did put just a bit of Clear silicone “ Very Little “on the end that fits into the camera for my peace of mind. The solar panel end is sealed so no concerns. From what I read online the solar panel uses the sunlight best if the brand name Reolink is at the bottom of the panel.I recently had 5 days with zero sun and my cameras battery dropped to 93 percent. Finally a day with about 3 hours of full sun had it back to full charge. My camera is in an area that receives many alerts day and night time so the solar panel is a must. I am very satisfied with the solar it works very good doing its job - it’s a no brainer - verses manually charging my camera. Thank You

I can not believe the negative reviews. One guy does not know how to slide back a rubber boot to connect it, so he pulls out a scissors to trim it. Other people give negative reviews because it does not work with a competitors camera, which this panel is not designed to work with.

This panel just works. Period. Remember, this does not “power cameras.” It simply trickle charges the battery. So if it is cloudy for extended periods of time, and there are a great deal of camera triggers, the battery will run down. On sunny days, it will charge back up.

It’s well built, simple, and works. And, a great value for the price.

This panel works very well as a much more affordable option for other camera systems as well. I wanted a panel to keep my Lorex wireless camera battery topped off but was not willing to pay $80 a panel for the Lorex ones. I decided to give this one a try and it works perfectly. The micro usb connector plugs right into my Lorex battery, I only needed to trim the rubber boot on the connector of the panel so it would slide far enough onto the connector to stay in place. It was easy to mount, panel and mount have good feel in quality and looks. And surprisingly , one of my cameras is mounted to a fence and shaded by the fence and a tree for morning sun, I didn't expect it to get enough sun to charge until well past noon but here it is, 9:30am in the winter, its sunny out but the panel is still well in the shade but it's charging the battery anyway. Very happy with the purchase, huge savings.

I have owned the Reolink Argus 2 cameras now for about a year, which are excellent cameras. The battery life has been great on them, but I found myself being without the security coverage during the times that I was recharging them. Since I have these at a remote location, that was not ideal. I decided to invest in the solar panels to see if they would meet my needs. When I installed the panels, the battery levels were at 4% and 25% on the cameras that I installed them on. Neither location that the panels were installed receive direct sunlight all day. The first couple of days were overcast, but the cameras still were fully charged within a week and have maintained since then. If you have the cameras in a location where it is not convenient to recharge the battery, then you should definitely invest in the Reolink solar panels.

Got this to power a Reolink Argus 2 wifi camera. Works nicely to charge the camera up in a nice sunny spot.

Really the only problem after a couple years now is that the tragically all plastic thumbscrew that screws down flush with the inner area of the panel can deteriorate from environmental exposure including intense Florida summer heat and, in my case, a big old pine tree's cones falling and impacting onto the panel.

Presently one of these panels has just about half of the nut left after such an impact, so at some point I'll need to remove the panel assembly and replace the flimsy screw with something more durable.

Another issue is with wattage. First, the listing doesn't show watts at all, unhelpful. Second, in areas that get full sun for only part of the day, it doesn't provide a full charge to the camera. Upgrading one of these to a higher wattage to compensate.
Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2018
The problem is the microUSB male at the end of the wire from the solar panel has a long black rubber sleeve which is supposed to prevent water from getting into the connection. However, this sleeve also prevents the USB micro male plug from fitting properly into the microUSB socket on the reolink camera.I had to trim back the sleeve, and even then the connection is rather tricky and unreliable. This difficulty is made worse by the facts that the orange charging light under the socket is only visible in deep shade or dark conditions. Of course the solar panel doesn't work under these conditions; when it is working it's impossible to verify that plug is securely engaged and the camera battery is actually charging. In addition, the reolink app doesn't allow one to verify that the battery is actually charging, though one can check the battery level. In addition, the micro usb charging cord that reolink provides with the AC charger did'nt work - I had to use my own. These various flaws make the unit difficult to use.
UPDATE A YEAR LATER: with the difficulties noted above, I was successfully able to use 2 of these panels with 2 Argus units. However, eventually water did get into the microUSB connector, I think mainly because I mounted the unit pointing downwards, the connector corroded and now I'm buying a new solar panel. I still think this is the weak link in the chain.
