I've read some reviews saying this is loud and the button being at the bottom is weird-i disagree with both. compared to my normal hair dryer-this is quieter. the on/off being at the bottom helps me not accidentally turn it off while using it which happens frequently with my regular hair dryer.

I have both version 1 & version 2 of the Revlon Hot Air Brush. Version 2 gives me a little longer reach & is easier to hold, but both work very well for smoothing, drying, and giving root lift to my mid-length quite frizzy hair.

For defrizzing, the secret is applying good smoothers to wet hair, then keeping this drying brush in contact with my scalp the entire time as I make long sweeping strokes from the roots on one side of my head, over the curve of my head, all the way to the tips of my hair that is stretched around to the opposite side of my head. Brushing my hair while keeping it tightly curved against & around my head keeps the hair under tension until it's dry, & that eliminates almost all of the frizz.

I liked my version 1 very much and appreciated it's quietness and gentle heat on the low setting, so thought it would be perfect for drying my dog after her frequent baths. The dog LOVES it, and it works so well! I do have to constantly remove the long golden retriever hair from the brush as I go (the dog is shedding, & I don't want to clog the air intake or cause fire hazard), but it's easy to remove the hair using just my fingers.

So now I have version 2 for myself (no, I don't use the same brush for both the dog and myself, silly). Both versions have multiple settings of heat & airflow that work well for me, and the low setting on my version 1 is quiet and just the right temperature for my dog (version 2 is just as good). Both versions are winners. I'm glad I didn't spend more for a different brand that probably wouldn't work any better. I'd still be using version 1 for myself if I hadn't signed it over to my dog, but do like the improvements of version 2.

Sometimes the older established brands nail it. This smaller barrel version for bob-to-lob lengths works just like the original (also A+). Holds enough tension for a smooth tapered sculpted result better than a round brush, especially for fine but dense strands prone to frizz. Why? The “bristles” are a hybrid of fixed/flex. Nothing else like it. The $$$$ air versions? those are better for repeated “temporary hold” studio uses, with not enough grip or hold for hours of real life. And, WAY better than cheaper imitations (just spend the extra $20!). A basic tool in the kit. So worth the storage space. Expensive dedicated industrial strength hairdryer? Yes. Reliable dedicated industrial strength finisher (this!)? Yes. Multi-use hybrid? No, and meh, for reasons you can read up on for yourself.

Features: grips, dries, lifts, molds, swoops, smooths, extra medium setting, splits into two for storage/travel.

Wish: Add a button for the cool shot setting, and this would be truly perfect. Twisting the handle is fine but not *perfect* in actual use. Maybe keep both ways to access the cool shot and make everyone happy? If the twist was fixed, and button hold-only duration = chefs kiss. Put a light indicator for temp too! I’d pay $30 more for all of that.

This is probably my third or fourth Revlon One Step over the past five years. I LOVE the simplicity of the product. However, after about a year of use, the temperature gauge seems to allow the product to get extremely hot. This latest product has an additional heat setting which allows you to lower the temperature to Medium. Better on the hair, and probably better on the product. We'll see! But, I would never go back to a blowdryer and brush again.

The most negative thing is that there is no "button" to turn down the settings with one hand while using. The setting is a rotating dial that takes two hands to work, so I have to stop and let go of the section of hair I'm working on and use both hands to turn the dial. It's also loud and fairly heavy.
