I used to have a Sunbeam immersion blender, and was happy with it. However, it broke the day I used it to whip heavy cream. (That whipped cream'll kill ya! Just kidding. The whipped cream killed the Sunbeam though!)
I used an electric mixer just attaching one of the two beaters for a while. That worked okay, but really wasn't as good as an immersion blender for things like bulletproof coffee and was so big and bulky on the kitchen counter. Then a friend gave me this one. It has two speeds, and WOW, it's powerful -- especially compared to the Sunbeam I had before. I seriously think the LOW setting on this one is more powerful than the only setting on the Sunbeam. (To be fair, I got the Sunbeam used and for all I know it was a very old model.)
Funnily, the reason my friend had an extra immersion blender to give me was because she wanted one strong and powerful enough for using in soups and stews. (Thus the BIG surprise when I discovered how powerful this one is!)
I also like it that it is corded. I don't want to deal with batteries -- though if I was a frequently traveler I'd go for a model that takes batteries. But when you have a cord, it can splay all over the counter. I like the way there is a "neck" on this blender that I can wind that cord around when it is not in use.
And no, I won't be using this one to whip the heavy cream.
