Finally onto the ROCCAT. I decided on this mouse after finding out Roccat made a high quality optical mouse. I wanted to stay away from laser mice, so this seemed like the way to go. So far so good. Excellent tracking, excellent finish, excellent software. This mouse just says quality all over it.
-Comfort: This mouse is a bit smaller than I expected (smaller than the Deathadder and Imperator) My had is about average size, and this mouse just barely fits in my hand, but very comfortably. I use a claw grip, and it works well for me. If you play fingertip grip style, this mouse would be excellent as well, but I don't think it would work for palm style, unless you a have a small hand. The only improvements I could say would be if they added some dimple texture where the thumb rests, its so smooth sometimes the grip is a bit loose feeling.
-Quality: I haven't had the mouse for very long, but it seems to be something that will last long. The button presses and overall fit and finish are very nice and sturdy. The mouse wheel feels awesome, like it will outlast even my mechanical keyboard. Lighting is nice and bright, and the cord and usb port are excellent build quality. (Braided cord of course.)
-Tracking: Tracking has been excellent, as quality optical mice often are. No acceleration is present, and haven't had any problems with random jumping of the cursor/x-hair, or any sort of angle snapping. Its quite perfect. (I run it at 800dpi always, haven't messed with the higher settings.)
-Software/Driver: The software is probably the best I've seen on a mouse ever. Everything is customize-able, the Easy-Shift[+] setup is great, though I don't use it personally as I don't need a lot of extra buttons/macros. The ability to change the lighting to any color is great, and I wish more companies would follow this. Overall excellent software, I definitely don't use it to the full.
Overall this is a great mouse. I think it could stand to be a little bit bigger (Maybe Kone XTD size? Haven't tried that one personally.) and some added grip texture would make this mouse perfect, but I can't take anything away for how it currently is now. Definitely one of the best, if not the best mouse I've used.
The software, while comically slow to apply changes to the mouse, is full-featured and otherwise excellent. But: when I say slow, I mean 30 seconds to apply any changes. And no, that is not an exaggeration - it literally takes 20-30 seconds (I haven't timed it to more precision than that). Changing the color of the backlight or changing the function of a button and hitting "apply" or "OK" will result in a ~25 second period where the software is unresponsive while it sends the updated mapping and color options to the mouse. This doesn't prove to be a huge issue, though, since I really only had to map the buttons and choose the colors once. I've made a few small changes since choosing my original configuration, but only a few, and it operates perfectly outside of the setup in the software. It has silly options to record clicks and scrolls, etc., but I just turned them off since they didn't appeal to me. None of this seems to have any effect on the performance of the mouse - it is extremely responsive, and there are no issues with using the buttons once they've been programmed.
The optical sensor has a fairly high liftoff distance, but using it set to 800cpi has been a non-issue for me. The tracking is very smooth and I don't feel any acceleration or weirdness. I love the feel of it. In fact, my accuracy has improved by at least one objective measure (these mouse tracking games at a site called aim400kg).
TL;DR VERSION: the mouse is small and extremely comfortable in the claw grip, tracks very well, and feels all around excellent. The software is full-featured but slow to use, and the liftoff distance is high (as is typical for optical mice). Overall my favorite mouse of any I've used.
