Top customer reviews
I bought this for one of my grandsons that is just getting interested in rocks and has a small bag of rocks that he plans on getting polished... so the interest is there already and I think this will help him along. His mom encourages him in spending time with non computer/tv related games.. so he is a busy boy with all the discoveries he makes along the way.
Just to enhance the game a little..the sellers offer a 100 percent satisfaction guarantee (look for it in the box)
This is a great way to encourage a child to use his mind and to learn nature... the game is generous in its bags of assorted rocks, and some of them are just amazing to look at..., plus you get a game board with cards to play and learn a bit more as you go along
Here is what you get.. in Rock On.
5 Levels of Play
Rock & Mineral Collection includes 15 Specimens and 50+ Polished Rocks & Minerals
Game includes Master Rock Guide, Player Cards for up to 6 Players, 18 Rock Call Cards
I know without a doubt this is going to be one of his fav gifts this year.
I have included photos to show you everything that comes in the box....I am a avid shopper here and I know the value of good reviews that tell the good and the bad.. at this moment, I do not see a single negative thing on this awesome learning game.
I hope this review has been helpful to you.
Opening the box, I was presented with a green snapped shut container that proudly stated the name of the product. Inside were two ziplocked bags, a small one carrying smooth small stones and a large one holding larger, actual rocks. Underneath that was six cards that had rows of rocks and their names on a square ( literally think bingo set up). There was one card that went vertical instead of horizontal and that was the guide card. It showed several rows of rocks. Next up were the playing card size playing cards that you put face down and have people take turns drawing the top card. The card itself has a large picture of the rock it is identifying and several facts listed under it. Objective of the game is for everyone needs to have one of those six horizontal cards. As you pull a card, it is shown to the entire group and everyone sees if their card has the rock that was card. If you do, you place a smooth stone on the picture and then you find the actually rock from the large Ziploc bag and place it accordingly on the vertical tall card. First to have all their rocks covered wins the games.
The kit contains:
Metamorphic: Quartz, Feldspars, Jasper and Labradorite (about one inch)
Igneous: Quartz, Unakite (granite), Gabbro, Feldspars, Jasper and Labradorite (about one inch)
Sedimentary: Quartz, Septarian, Feldspars and Jasper (about one inch)
Mineral: Sodalite, Rhodonite and Orange Calcite (about one inch)
Gem: Amazonite (about one inch)
Crystal: Selenite “Rose” (about one inch)
Fossil: Petrified Wood (about one inch)
(There is one larger card with the main rocks, mineral, gem, crystal and fossil. Also, included with each larger rock is a sturdy informational card. Also, If you notice there are rocks that can be grouped in all three groups metamorphic, igneous and sedimentary.)
A bag of smaller nice quality polished rocks and minerals (we received 86) and rock & mineral guide on a sturdy card.
3 Rock My World trivia cards & 6 game cards – instructions included for games
This is a great beginning of the study of rocks, minerals, gems, crystals and fossils. Go beyond the game and discover that Gabbro often contains valuable amounts of chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), cobalt (Co), gold (Au), silver (Ag), platinum (Pt) and copper sulfides (CuxSy). YES, the periodic table! This is the reason we bought this kit!
We also purchased: Introductory Earth Science Classroom Rocks and Minerals Collection, they complement each other well. And to look at these beauties we purchased an Opti-Tekscope Digital USB Microscope Camera.
ROCK ON! Great name – rock on to geology, chemistry, math, geography, architecture, jewelry - you name it.
The colors in nature are incredible!
