The threads do not have stop a of any sort on them so the sleeve travels all the way to the shoulder of the nose, exposing a couple of threads on the gate, at the base of the sleeve. The sleeve can come complete off the gate, in the open position.
The finish is okay, but nothing special, and certainly not permanent.
If you're looking for a tacticool keychain, this could be it. If you're looking for a quality carabiner spend the money on something that's climber rated, even if that's not what you're going to use it for.
I wouldn't buy it again; if I did, I wouldn't pay more than the price of a non-locking one--a dollar, maybe 2.
Cons: Locking mechanism doesn't work.
I purchased this locking carabiner to hold multiple key rings. The locking cylinder can spin on its own - up or down and unlocks itself after just a few hours of being attached to my backpack. There are much better locking carabiners for just a few more dollars. The carabiner works fine as a normal latch, but I purchased this one specifically for the locking function.
The carabiner itself is of average build with a decent finish. By no means is this a top of the line carabiner I was used to when climbing. But it does the trick. The locking part is a little flimsy because it does not have a stop to prevent the carabiner from becoming unthreaded. I also do not like that there is no catch pin.
The quality and material seems pretty good. It is definitely not for climbing, but it can probably hold 20 pounds or so. The locking mechanism was really important for me making a decision on choosing this carabiner versus the others on the market. It can easily be locked and unlocked with one hand. I haven't had any trouble with the locking mechanism, as some other reviewers have noted. So far the spring part hasn't given me any trouble, which is the part that broke on my previous carabiner.
Overall, so far so good. If you want to pay a little more, you can probably get a heavy duty carabiner. Otherwise, it gets the job done for a reasonable price.
The lock does not stay in place. It loosely screws up and then falls back down again. I don't see much of a point in a lock that wiggles around so much. Had the lock actually worked, I don't think she could have broken out of this lock. The strength of this carabiner was wrongfully advertised- but I see that description has now been taken down. For $5.00 I don't know what I was expecting, though. Just something strong enough to use on a dog leash. That's not what I ended up with. It's good key-chain quality, but that's about it. Don't recommend it for anything remotely strenuous.
Small enough to fit in my pocket with about 4-5 keychains attached.

Not a locking carabiner. As the other reviews have mentioned, the locking nut can thread right off the top. Read morePublished 2 months ago by Ted Bradley
I only use this to attach a bottle to my work bag. The screw latch does not appear to have a stop so when screwing over the closure to ensure a lock, the nut/screw on portion keeps... Read morePublished 4 months ago by A. Miller
Great quality for the price. We use these for keys chains and other things easily misplaced that can be put on a hook.Published 4 months ago by Pearl5
This is OK but I don't think it's anything too special and probably not worth the pricePublished 6 months ago by Grizzle82
