I knew that this was not climber rated when I bought it, but I was hoping for a little higher quality than it is. First of all, the inside usable length on this is about 64mm, outside 78mm, so the "80mm" description is a nominal figure only. In standard terms, that's 2½" inside, 3⅛" outside.

The threads do not have stop a of any sort on them so the sleeve travels all the way to the shoulder of the nose, exposing a couple of threads on the gate, at the base of the sleeve. The sleeve can come complete off the gate, in the open position.

The finish is okay, but nothing special, and certainly not permanent.

If you're looking for a tacticool keychain, this could be it. If you're looking for a quality carabiner spend the money on something that's climber rated, even if that's not what you're going to use it for.

The nut screws all the way off either side and is mostly just for looks. Since the biner is small it doesn't look that big or tough, anyway, so even the looks aren't much to speak of.

I wouldn't buy it again; if I did, I wouldn't pay more than the price of a non-locking one--a dollar, maybe 2.

Pros: small carabiner made for key rings.

Cons: Locking mechanism doesn't work.

I purchased this locking carabiner to hold multiple key rings. The locking cylinder can spin on its own - up or down and unlocks itself after just a few hours of being attached to my backpack. There are much better locking carabiners for just a few more dollars. The carabiner works fine as a normal latch, but I purchased this one specifically for the locking function.

Bought a few of these for a dollar each. I am satisfied with the quality for this price, but these are not comparable to heavy duty $10 carabiners that look similar. The Rothco product is very lightweight. The screw lock kind of works, but does not feel real secure. This product should be fine for lightweight loads (maybe 10 pounds), but certainly is not for holding a person in a safety situation.

I imagine people find a multitude of uses for this product. In my case, I needed a quick method of attaching my camera (Nikon D300s) to quick connection straps on my Lowepro 350 AW DSLR Video Fastpack (Black). These did the trick. Simply put, I connected the carabiner to a webbing loop on each strap of the pack. From there, I looped the quick connect straps to the carabiner. From there, I use the quick connects to connect the camera. This method provides the greatest flexibility and load distribution.

The carabiner itself is of average build with a decent finish. By no means is this a top of the line carabiner I was used to when climbing. But it does the trick. The locking part is a little flimsy because it does not have a stop to prevent the carabiner from becoming unthreaded. I also do not like that there is no catch pin.

This is a review for the Rothco Black 80mm locking Carabiner. The reason why I was in the market for one of these is because I previously had a one cheapo free one that broke. I use this carabiner for multiple uses, such as on a purse or bag, house keys, car keys, leash, grocery bags, and a few other uses around our home. It kind of acts as a 3rd hand which we all need sometimes.

The quality and material seems pretty good. It is definitely not for climbing, but it can probably hold 20 pounds or so. The locking mechanism was really important for me making a decision on choosing this carabiner versus the others on the market. It can easily be locked and unlocked with one hand. I haven't had any trouble with the locking mechanism, as some other reviewers have noted. So far the spring part hasn't given me any trouble, which is the part that broke on my previous carabiner.

Overall, so far so good. If you want to pay a little more, you can probably get a heavy duty carabiner. Otherwise, it gets the job done for a reasonable price.

I bought two of these with the intent to use them to connect my dog's leashes to their 50ft tie-line runs outside. When I originally purchased this the description said it was good for up to 80 pounds. The first dog I tried this on was my smaller pup. She weighs about 40 pounds. She broke this clip open (while it was 'locked') within 5 minutes of running back and forth playing outside. Thank the Gods above I was supervising her and could catch her before she ran off.

The lock does not stay in place. It loosely screws up and then falls back down again. I don't see much of a point in a lock that wiggles around so much. Had the lock actually worked, I don't think she could have broken out of this lock. The strength of this carabiner was wrongfully advertised- but I see that description has now been taken down. For $5.00 I don't know what I was expecting, though. Just something strong enough to use on a dog leash. That's not what I ended up with. It's good key-chain quality, but that's about it. Don't recommend it for anything remotely strenuous.

This thing works perfectly as a keychain holder. Don't buy it if you plan to actually climb with it. The twist knob is a little loose at times, but it holds together when tightened all the way.

Small enough to fit in my pocket with about 4-5 keychains attached.
