The drone comes with a case with enough room for the drone, bumpers and batteries. You cannot leave the bumpers on to close the case but this is really cool for traveling. It also comes with a 6GB Micro SD and the San Disk Adapter Card so you can insert the micro and download onto a computer.
Hopefully others have much more luck but for us the fun only lasted about 10 minutes in total before the drone was a goner. It was a spectacular 10 minutes though.
First, one person says he was never able to get it to work, but doesn't explain. It works perfectly for me, so possibly he did not read the instructions or got a defective unit?
The concept of the unit is not to be an all purpose drone, because those drones are dangerous. If you tried to use such a drone as a selfie drone, you may find yourself in a painful accident or losing hundreds of dollars, because they are not geared for close up control. They are designed for longer distances from the pilot and the propellers are exposed.
This unit is designed for close up use, and flights within 10 to 20 feet. You can try to use it in other ways, but it is not designed for it, and when it gets out of range, you could have a disaster on your hands.
Protecting the blades this way is brilliant for up close and personal use. First, if you do bungle something the unit can fall to the ground from 10 feet up or so and not be damaged. A regular unit would likely lose the prop. The unit is also safe because if it heads towards a person, they may get an uncomfortable bump, but a prop is not going to cut into them or take out an eye. This is all about safety and ease of use up close. For that use it is perfect.
This unit also has built in obstacle avoidance technology. Wish my regular drone did. This makes it much less likely to make contact with anyone or anything. However, in use, one must be aware of the feature, because if you do get too close to a house or pole or tree, it will limit your movement of the unit towards that object. So for a romantic selfie under a tree, this is not going to work well. It will work for most everything else in the open.
The unit CAN be used indoors. Be ware of obstacles it may avoid or hit. Sounds like common sense until it hits a ceiling fan, which may confuse it if the ceiling fan is on. When on, the unit may not detect it as an obstacle because the moving blades do not appear solid in all cases.
However, I would never feel safe flying any normal droid indoors, and this one is fine to fly indoors because it is protected and has obstacle avoidance. Still, I do not suggest you fly it in a room with a great deal of breakables. If it hits a chair, not big deal. It hits a vase or television, it may not be the best result for you.
The camera is flexible, but not the highest resolution. The pictures are clear and focused, but will not be equivalent to a 13 pixel phone camera. Still, they are unique and clear enough. You may find you have to take two or three tries to get it right, but the pictures are quite satisfying, not grainy.
The unit has two batteries, which is a great idea because the life on them is about 8 minutes use. This is true of most droids under $500, because the batteries add weight and expense to the overall design. Hopefully it will not take you more than 8 minutes to get your selfie. Seems like a short time, but it is not when in action.
The cool factor cannot be overstated. There is no way to get some of the shots I have taken with this. I have been a bit risky with it, taking pics looking off a bridge and such, without incident, but I would not do that on a windy day. Strong winds even make the pro units have fits at times, so keep the weather conditions in mind.
The unit is a blast. It is fun to play with and everybody wants to try it and take their pictures. Life of the party item for sure, at least until everyone else has one. I make sure both batteries are fully charged before I go anywhere, because as soon as the folks around me see it, it is in the air.
I am guessing people that bought this and complained about it did not know how to use it properly (and any demo video will show it does work properly) or they were attempting to use it in conditions for which it was not designed.
There are plenty of videos of the unit in use online, and one in the listing on Amazon. If you watch them, they will give you a great idea of how it is used.
I personally was not the one who put this Drone together but the men gathered around, pulled out their phones or tablets and easily found out what had to be done. They were like a bunch of kids again and the women had a good time laughing with and at them After it was flyable even the women (well, some of them) wanted to try it out. My children (and grandchildren) couldn't understand why this item would be of interest to an old lady but I thought it would be fun and it has proved itself. I now want to get one of the little ones to fly around the dining room but that might be too much for management to bear. Everyone has commented on what fun it was and will continue to be.
