Seen these post about "My compressor is quieter and cooler using this." so I thought a real look with some test equipment would be fun.
I will say in advance a different compressor may have different results.
I have a new Makita MAC700 2.0 HP* Big Bore™ compressor and it's not loud anyway. Did the factory recommended break in and have used it some while waiting on this new oil. With the old stuff in it I got 49-50 db on my meter, really not bad. Using Royal Purple oil I see 48-49 db little enough to be hard to notice by ear. Head temp hit 10* F for both oils. I will point out that it fills the tank and cuts off in minutes so I would expect on one that runs longer it will be some cooler.
My take is that Royal Purple is providing a better cushioning between the crank journal and the rod bearing and the wrist pin and the piston. That's why the sound level went down a bit. Considering how tight things are since you can tell at all is good enough for me.

I had never replaced the fluid in my husky air compressor so I vacuumed it out and put this in there are claims that it runs cooler claims that it's less noisy I got none of those it works fine it does its job it looks good after a couple hours worth of use but I do not see a temperature or note a noise difference

I bought this synthetic oil to use in my John Deere 3800 psi pressure washer and Central Pneumatic 21 gallon, 2.5 HP air compressor. I use my air compressor for occasional auto maintenance and trim work in my home and my pressure washer for routine house, deck, and car cleaning. Occasionally, my friends will stop by to use them but I am by no means a "professional" user. I have had both of these for about 10 years and change the pump oil every spring. I of course top off the oil as needed between changes. I have always used synthetic motor oil in the small engines but just conventional compressor oil. Normally, I just pick up a quart of some random compressor oil for about $8/quart and change it out with that. I was recently researching synthetic compressor oils and Royal Purple kept showing up as one of the top rated fully synthetic oils out there so I decided to give it a try. I ran my compressor and pressure washer for about 5-7 minutes and flushed the oil with the cheap stuff. I ran them again and checked the temperature with an IR thermometer then drained the oil and put in the Royal Purple. Although I don't have a decibel meter, both were noticeably quieter. After they both had cooled down for a few hours I ran them again and checked the temperature with the IR and they were about 10°F-15°F cooler. They normally run around 220°F but are now running about 205°F-210°F so that is a definite improvement. Although this stuff runs about $20/quart, it is definitely worth it because of the lower pump temps and quieter operation which I assume means that the lubrication is much better. I will definitely be buying Royal Purple again.

Some reviews said it worked very well in cold temperatures, bought this oil for that and when it dropped below -5C compressor wouldn't start, motor fuse blows unless air tank is empty. Changed this oil to 5w30 engine oil and compressor starts no problem in -20C weather. It may be a good oil, but definitely not for cold weather, and very expensive!.
