Recently I've been refurbishing an old early-90's mountain bike, and decided that it needed a new age touch up. Shopped around for front suspension, but quickly realized that my old bike called for a 1" front fork to fit it's head tube rather than the current standard of 1 1/8". Found that RST made a fork that could be used on an old bike that called for 1" steerer to fit the smaller head tube, and thus the Omega was born. Love the fork...it does everything that a lower-end RockShox fork would do (ie: adjustable travel depth, lock-out function, etc.) and I even think it looks better. Make sure you order with a 1" steerer tube (shim included) to fit your old ride. Really good product, looks great, works well, fair price = happy me.

I didn't want to spend much to upgrade a Mongoose MTB that was purchased new for only $120. Also, because the bike has a 1" dia steerer and a quill type stem, I couldn't find an alternative model suspension fork to choose from besides this one.

I weigh 184 lbs. I ride on mostly wooded singletrack that is not too rooty and with deadfall few and far between. This suspension fork was installed on a bike that I generally DON'T ride where I'll be encountering drops greater than about 12".

The RST Omega TnL fork has made a noticable improvement in handling over the bike's stock fork that it replaced. Originally the bike had undamped, nonadjustable coil springs within its fork.

At the time of this original review I have ridden on it ONLY about 10 hours, and it has so far performed reliably without any observed defects or malfunctions. If I should get a minimum of 300 hrs of life out of it, then GREAT.

Tip: In the interest of extending the life of its wiper seals consider putting a pair of Lizard Skins Mountain Bike Suspension Fork Boots on it. That should keep abrasive dirt particles off the finely ground cylindrical posts. That's what I did.

I'll update this review in the future, as soon as I begin having problems with it. Remember, nothing lasts forever...

This front shock is great. I used it on my mid-90s mountain bike that had a ridged front fork. The ride is smooth, it reacts well, and since it has a hydraulic lockout and sensitivity adjustment, you can make the shock as responsive as you'd like. It also has a preload so you can adjust it based on your weight. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is upgrading a ridged fork to a shock or upgrading a low end shock to something nicer. Great for trails and all types of mountain riding.

Needed a fork for an older bike with a 1" steerer tube so this was one of the few units that would work. Has a good selection of steerer tubes available, even threaded options.

Unit is smooth and does have a lot of travel. It loosed up significantly in just a couple of weeks of use, too much actually. Wish the preload adjustments were more effective cause I have to lock it out whenever I come out of the saddle to pump. It is actually pretty solid, looks good as well, but understandably for the price doesn't have the adjustments or performance of the Fox 34 on my other bike. Still, if you are replacing an SR unit on an older bike this is a solid option.

Bought this to replace an elastomer fork on a high-end mountain bike. It is a bit heavier than I'd like - but for the money you really cannot go wrong. I use my road bike 90% of the time and could not justify spending more. If you are looking to change or upgrade be sure to investigate brake compatibility (V-Brake - Yes, Cantilever - No). If you need to upgrade your brakes you will also need to upgrade brake levers.

A bit heavy, though it is a closer to a lower end fork. Lockout seems somewhat abrupt. Maybe I'm just too used to riding with suspension, but with the fork locked out, it feels like there's still a fraction of an inch of travel which bottoms out very hard. Interchangeable steerer tube is nice....bought it with a steerer for one bike, changed plans and only had to spend $20 for a different steerer, not a whole new fork. Seems decent for the price it is.
