My one complaint is the pour spout. It doesn't stick out far enough from the removable strainer which nestles at the top of the container. When I go to pour the oil, it dribbles out! If you tilt it far enough in hopes to speed up the pouring, then the grease will come back out through the strainer in the opposite direction, grabbing any leftovers crumbs that may be in it. This is not cool. I have to take the strainer out in order to pour the grease out without any problems.
This is a decent size grease catcher/strainer as you can hold several cups of used oil.
Fine screen filters all sediment out of oil.
Lid can be placed on "pitcher" over screen.
Screen has a clever handle so you don't get your hands oily.
Light weight construction seems a little flimsy.
Lid, screen and "pitcher" have rolled edges to prevent cuts from sharp metal, but this creates crevice where dirt can hide.
Lid merely sits on top of "pitcher" rather than making a tight seal.
If you don't currently strain your oil for re-use you are probably throwing away a lot of money. Oil breaks down due to oxygen, contaminants, and water (ice crystals). This item reduces the amount of oxygen getting to your oil and vastly reduces contaminants as long as you strain your oil in a timely manner. When pan frying I used to throw away my oil after 1-2 uses, I now get 5 or 6 uses out of the same oil (deep fryers will extend the life of the oil a bit on their own due to design, you will still get a better life out of any oil strained vs. unstrained but it will be more noticeable when pan frying). If you're not worried about paying a few extra dollars this item is great.
Now I just saw another product called RSVP Stoneware Grease Keeper - Black that I wish I had purchased. The base is made of stoneware and it does cost more - $22. I would gladly paid the difference if I had just seen it before ordering this product.
