After researching marble, stone, and stainless steel M&P's to replace the smaller, cracked marble one that served me well for over 15 years, I decided upon the RSVP Gorgeous Grey Marble Mortar & Pestle because of the size, reviews, and reasonable price.My criteria included size, quality of materials and craftsmanship, and user reviews: so, I have written my review in a similar order even though it doesn't necessarily reflect criteria priority since, in my mind, they all hold equal importance.SIZEIdeal size for stove-side spice milling.The MORTAR's opening measures 3 1/2 inches across and 2 1/2 inches deep so spices like coriander seeds don't jump out of the mortar like they did with the shallower one I replaced.The 5 1/2 inch long PESTLE fits well in my hand and feels well-weighted with the heavier, crushing end left coarse and unpolished for efficient milling. The pestle measures 1/2 inch at the top and increases to 1 /4 inch at the rounded, crushing end; and, the length allows for comfortable, secure use and grip without knocking your knuckles along the top of the pestle while grinding.Both the mortar and pestle feel (and look) very sturdy and solid especially during use.DESIGN & QUALITYThe overall design has proven very functional. The mortar has proven easy to anchor with one hand while using the pestle with the other: and, both the M&P feel well-balanced, appear attractive, and look and feel well-constructed. Ideal size for stove-side spice milling.
The MORTAR's opening measures 3 1/2 inches across and 2 1/2 inches deep so spices like coriander seeds don't jump out of the mortar like they did with the shallower one I replaced.
The 5 1/2 inch long PESTLE fits well in my hand and feels well-weighted with the heavier, crushing end left coarse and unpolished for efficient milling. The pestle measures 1/2 inch at the top and increases to 1 /4 inch at the rounded, crushing end; and, the length allows for comfortable, secure use and grip without knocking your knuckles along the top of the pestle while grinding.

Color: White MarbleVerified Purchase
I love this M&P. It looks gorgeous, is a very comfortable size (big enough to work comfortably but small enough that you won't have to chase your herbs around the bottom, either) it's easy to clean thoroughly, and perhaps most importantly it pulverises very well. Having bought and used (or tried to use) a much smaller, soapstone M&P around a year ago, I know how frustrating it can be working with too little space and a porous material that absorbs a little of everything you put in it with each use. I have no such problems with this set, and I'm confident that you won't either. Also, some people say they've had problems with this model creating a lot of "chalk," which I imagine is fine marble dust ground out of the piece with use. I have never had this problem, and I've worked it pretty hard. It seems to me that if you're using enough force on this thing to wear it down that quickly, you would probably realize it. And if you need that much force to pulverize whatever you're grinding, you should probably find a different tool with which to do so. Also, obviously be careful not to drop it, but otherwise it seems pretty sturdy.
*Edit - Here's an important warning: don't try to clean one of these sets with acetone. Acetone may seem appealing for its ability to dissolve some of the more difficult to remove plant buildup (like Rosemary) but I just found out the hard way that acetone will strip the polished surface off of your set. Mine is now stripped in places along the handle and I really wish I hadn't done that. The best answer for cleaning it is soaking it and/or using soap and water, and leaving it to dry completely until any remnant of scent disappears. This has worked well for me.
*Edit - Here's an important warning: don't try to clean one of these sets with acetone.
