If I could give this stuff 6 stars, I would. In todays' world, I am blown away whenever I come across a product that lives up to its hype. This one exceeds it. I've never used it before, and it was recommended by my local hardware-store guy when I had a different (and more expensive) product on the counter. My deck is 11 years old and was nearly black with several coats of who-knows-what plus mildew over the years. I did a thorough pressure washing and that removed everything down to the bare wood, but left nasty black stains around all the deck screws. Oh well.

I applied one coat with a roller, worked it into the spaces between the decking with a bristle brush screwed to a long handle, then brushed out the surface as per directions making sure there were no puddles. At first, I was not happy with the very dark and too-opaque red color. But the next day, my deck looked like brand new redwood! After a week in the hot sun, it looks better than a brand new redwood deck. The decking, pretty raw after pressure washing and drying in the sun for two weeks, even feels like new wood now. The stain is pretty thick and the way it soaks into the wood leaves the surface feeling smooth and fresh. Oh, and the black spots around the screws? You really have to look for them now.

Coming from a retired (and tired) general contractor here, I highly recommend this product and will use nothing esle in the future.

No, I did not get any favors for writing this review; it is just a great product that actually works.

I love this stuff. It is basically linseed oil with additives: colorant, drying agents to speed dry/cure time, something to prevent mildew ( a problem with straight linseed oil),etc. I've always prefered a drying oil to an acrylic "stain", (which is basically paint.) Tung oil is better, but costs a fortune. This soaks into the wood like a true stain. Keep coating until no more will absorb after about 15 minutes, wipe off the excess, and let it dry. It will dry in 24 hours or so; curing (which is an oxidation procedure) takes longer. Warning: if you recoat after years, the colorant may greatly darken the wood. Try diluting it with the clear product, or just use the clear. Experimentation is the key.

I have used this product on my 2 decks and wood fence with trellis. The decks look the same as the day they were built in the summer of 2000. I re apply every 3 to 4 years. I am redoing the fence this year and it has been 8 years. I live in western Washington and by the salt water and we get a lot of wet weather that is very hard on wood decks and fencing. The only problem is it is hard to find.
