In this novella you get his background and a little of Sasha’s. This story should be read first since it is really a love story. I wish I had read it first. It shows Igor in such a different light and really explains how circumstance sometimes makes a person who they are not necessarily who they want to be. Igor really shines thru with Maryruth. She is such a bright light in his dark life. I also liked how you got to understand Sasha a little and it makes what happens with him in Sins of the Rex 1 more tearful also. The story is told so you will be sitting on the edge of your chair all the way through because you sort of know what is going to happen yet you really hope it is different. On its own this is a really good story even through the tears. I would say that anyone reading this has to read Sins of the Rex 1 to understand why this story had to end the way it did. I can’t give anymore of an overview to this story without a lot of spoilers but I will say I highly recommend both books. Just be prepared for so much emotion. This is a voluntary review.
Igor is a sensitive creative type, like his dead other, but as the son of Olaf, he isn't allowed that luxury. Olaf is the head of the Russian mafia, and he rules with an iron fist. Olaf has groomed Igor from a young age to be his heir. Igor is deeply unhappy and tries to drown out his sorrow with women and alcohol. Until he met Maryruth. Maryruth joined Igor in a sauna one day, and they got to chatting and never stopped. Igor is intrigued by the beautiful Maryruth but his father has other plans for Igor that involve marriage with Katherine, the daughter of a powerful mafia leader, in order to expand his empire. Igor has never felt this way about a woman before, and chooses Mary over Katherine. But is Olaf willing to accept Igor's decision?
Ruthless is a riveting story of heartbreaking loss and powerful love. Emma Slate's portrayal of the mafia world full of fascinating characters had me hooked from the start. I highly recommend this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book
So much to this story - Maryruth and Igor have the kind of love that fairytales are made of, perfect and so sinfully beautiful.
It was so hard for me to turn the final page - I did not want to let go.
She is his everything -
Her smile, the little tinkle to her laughter - she was the heat that slowly melted the ice around his heart
She became his life , his reason for being
For her he would conquer the world.
Forged by the spark of innate greed and the simple twitch of a finger
He was vengeance, revenge and retribution
Nothing and no one would stop him from painting the streets with the blood of those who betrayed him
This is the story of how the monster was created -
There is no Hope and there is no Mercy there is only Retribution
An absolute must read for any Sins of the Rex fans -
"I received an ARC at no cost from the author."
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Now I have also read "Sins of the Rex" part 3. I loved all of these books and I'm want more. I fell in love Sasha and would love a book or novella be written continuing his story.
Thank you Ms. Slate for your wonderful imagination.
