I built my desktop pc about ten years ago and had been noticing a slowing/sluggish response to photo and video editing processing.
I decided to upgrade/update the video card and add more RAM to the main system.
Since the video card got here first, I decided to install it. This new video card has 4GB of memory, compared to the 1GB that my previous card had. After the install, which was dead simple, I noticed that opening photo and video files was almost instantaneous. Editing those same files is also almost instantaneous and much faster in screen response than with the previous card.
If you have an older computer that is compatible with this card and are looking to speed up photo/video processing, this video card would be a good place to start. Between this card and the system RAM that I purchased to quadruple my RAM, I spent $130 US. That figure is far cheaper than replacing the entire system and should get me by for at least a few more years.
I cannot speak to any gaming functions, because I don't do gaming on this computer.
Final note: check your user manual to make sure that this video card will work with your computer. You need to have the correct PCI-E, 3.0, X 16 bus. And regardless of what other upgrades you are contemplating, make sure they are compatible with your motherboard and with your current operating system.
