This has been a much anticipated releases as the second part to Attewell’s terrific on-going analysis of George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire masterpiece. Attewell goes chapter-by-chapter through Martin’s second book in the series, "A Clash of Kings," analyzing the primary themes, political implications, and plot development to increase the reader’s depth of understanding of both Martin’s intricate story, but also the real-life historical parallels.

There is an incredible amount of fan-led content to be found based on Martin’s work, much of it helps in increasing the insight and respect for the story. However, for consistency, competency, and depth, Steve Attewell’s work is a must.

Extremely entertaining and educational.

There's literally hundreds of great forums/blogs/books/podcasts/videos/etc with content about song of ice and fire, but race for the iron throne is absolutely my favorite.

Excellent companion for anyone lost in the more esoteric and confusing references, or anyone who wants to know the real history and literature that inspired the events if ACOK. The analysis of daenerys' storyline is especially fufilling.

If you've read the Race for the Iron Throne Vol I, then nothing in this will come as a surprise (I purchased Volume I and received this one in exchange for contributing to a Kickstarter for it). It's a chapter-by-chapter analysis of the second book in George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series (adapted into the TV series Game of Thrones), and it is easily some of the best writing and analysis I've ever read on fantasy fiction. Attewell has been writing about the series for a long time (there is a wealth of essays by him elsewhere, especially at Tower of the Hand), and any fan of the book series (or new-comer who doesn't care about getting spoiled) will greatly enjoy this. Each chapter is given in-depth character and story analysis, and it includes a second showing real-historical and political counterparts to what has happened. I strong recommend it.
