Blog postWe are moving to New Zealand! It’s been a lifelong dream to go, and we can’t pass it up (I’m a citizen, and Lala’s visa came through!)
The hardest part for us, after leaving our loved ones, is the animals.
We couldn’t bring Clementine with us as she was at the end of her life, and we wouldn’t leave until she did. Then she left.

It is, after all,
a command she understands.
Sit.
So we do.
Stay is harder.
Rest in the breath is only as good
as your hammock mind allows,
and currently the swing is occupied by:
ten undone monkeys,
a small, cheerful rat,
an elephant wearing a magician’s cape,
and one very nervous jackalope.
She doesn’t mind the interlopers, though.

Blog postYou’re already ready. That’s my battle cry and my deepest truth. There’s nothing you aren’t ready to make, to learn, to do, or to become.
But you may have already noticed that doesn’t make it easy.
Just being ready to do the Big Scary Thing you want to do isn’t a cure-all. Simply being ready doesn’t make you leap up in the morning to work hard to chase your dream.
And that sucks! I know.

Blog postI realized last night that I’d gotten all caught up in thinking that each post here at You’re Already Ready should be deep and life-changing. And of course, that led to thinking I needed these to be well-written and lyrical.
Now, you already know this about me. I can write well, and I can write lyrically.
But mostly, I’m a sturdy writer, and proud of it.

Blog postIn early February of this year of the pandemic, I went to Austin for a writing conference. There, I had my own hotel room. It was a small con, and I didn’t know many people. Add that to the fact that I’m naturally an introvert, I ended up spending a lot of time in the hotel room by myself. That’s normal for me. I read a whole book. Room service brought me exactly the food I wanted, like the magic that room service is.

Blog postWhen I was a young woman, I loved the wearing purple poem. You probably know the one. In the nineties, it was everywhere – there was a collection of stories made into a book we couldn’t keep on the bookstore shelves. There were posters. The Red Hat Society came about because of it. It was the Mary Englebreit of aging gracefully or, really, with joy.
In case you don’t know it, here it is.

Please forgive my styling and ponytail wake-up hair – I was tugging at sweater in front of the mirror, trying to decide how to best wear it, and then I realized there was only one answer: with lipstick. Damn the rest.
I loved making it – SUPER easy and mindless, perfect pandemic knitting. It is, however, almost impossible to photograph. Here are my best attempts. <3 months ago Read more -

Blog postHello writers!
Every year I write about what I make money-wise as a full-time author. I do this for a few reasons, but the biggest one is that there’s always been a veil of secrecy around how much writers make. From international bestseller Rachael Herron, comes a book too delightful to put down:
Once Adele, Molly and Lana were The Darling Songbirds, a world-famous country band. Now they're just three sisters who barely speak. But that’s about to change.
Middle sister Molly arrives in town, and is immediately drawn to the neglected little café where she worked as a teenager. Could she dare to bring it back to life? As lead singer, Molly had always been the voice of the band. But caught between controlling big sister Adele and demanding baby sister Lana, she never felt heard. If she's going to reopen the café, she'll do it on her own terms, no more being bossed. So the last person she should fall for is the handsome Sheriff Colin McMurty – the man whose job it is to tell people exactly what to do . . .

A hilarious and heartwarming romance about a singer trying to find her song, from the bestselling author of Pack Up the Moon:
The saloon had always looked old-fashioned, but now it resembled a set in a ghost town. The boards creaked under Adele Darling’s feet as if they hadn’t been stepped on since women wore hoop skirts. Cobwebs on the porch slung themselves from top beams to bottom ones, and an old wagon wheel leaned against a hitching post in front. It was as if the sidewalk had been poured right around the post, and her Toyota hybrid looked completely wrong parked next to it. It should have been a horse.
The problem was that Adele wasn’t in an old western, or a ghost town. Darling Bay was the sleepy gold-rush town her great-grandfather had given his name to.
The town she’d left for good a long time ago.
The building is a ruin, the business is broke and customers are scarce. Add into the mix Nate Houston - the handsome, guitar-playing bartender who had always believed he would be the next owner - and Adele has one potent cocktail on her hands.
Can a rundown saloon in a sleepy town finally offer Adele a way into love?

With one call, her daughter’s life is on the line.
Laurie Ahmadi has worked as a 911 police dispatcher in her quiet Northern California town for almost two decades, but nothing in her nearly twenty years of experience could prepare her for the worst call of her career—her teenage daughter, Jojo, is on the other end of the line. She is drugged, disoriented, and in pain, and even though the whole police department springs into action, there is nothing Laurie can do to help.
Jojo, who has been sexually assaulted, doesn’t remember how she ended up at the home of Kevin Leeds, a pro football player famous for his work with the Citizens Against Police Brutality movement, though she insists he would never hurt her. And she has no idea where her best friend, Harper, who was with her earlier in the evening, could be.
As Jojo and Laurie begin digging into Harper’s private messages on social media to look for clues to her whereabouts, they uncover a conspiracy far bigger than they ever could have imagined. With Kevin’s freedom on the line and the chances of finding Harper unharmed slipping away, Laurie and Jojo begin to realize that they can’t trust anyone to find Harper except themselves, not even the police department they’ve long considered family . . . and time is running out.

International bestseller Rachael Herron gives you a stand-alone romance you won't be able to put down.
Love 'em and leave 'em wanting more, that's always been Jake's motto. Only one thing matters, and it's not love--it's the pure freedom of the open ocean, the wind in the rigging, and nothing but blue water ahead.
Zora, though?
She was the one catch it hurt to release.
Okay, the honest truth is she dumped him a really long time ago, and he's never known why, though it sure as hell couldn't have been the sex because she's still the hottest woman he's ever seen in his life.
Now that she's back and on his reality show, On the Market, he can clearly see there's a dark secret behind her incredible eyes.
And no matter what it takes, Jake's going to find out what she's hiding from him so he can finally be free again.
It's totally not a problem that he kind of WANTS to get caught in her net. Nope.
No problem at all.
That's what Jake's telling himself, anyway.
