We picked this up at the recommendation of our vet, our 3-year-old dog Kayla is a mess. She must have come from a backyard breeder as she has lots of allergies and GI problems. She has had consistent problems not wanting to eat and vomiting bile, she was constantly itchy and licking at her paws. It was the recommendation of the vet to try swapping kibble before we try to do more tests to determine her GI issues. We went from the Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream to this one as Kayla has grain allergies and fish was what was recommended.
Day 1: When I opened the bag to pour it into a secure box Kayla stuck her head in and tried to eat the kibble right away.
Day 16 (today): Kayla is noticeably less itchy and she has only been sick once since we swapped to the new food. I think she ate something from the back yard that didn't agree with her and that was the culprit. I don't have any issues with her refusing to eat now, which is a HUGE relief.
Update 15 months later: We're still using the Rachael Ray Nutrish Zero Grain Natural Dry Dog Food. Kayla still has much better as far as itch and GI issues than she previously had when we were on ToTW Pacific Stream and/or other dry foods. My husband and I are still happy with this food and will continue to buy it!
Please note, however, our other dog (55 lb Samoyed) did not have any adverse reaction to this dog food.
I've seen other reviews mention that there are different bags of this food. The one that my dog got sick off of was the one with white on the top of the bag and a gray/brown landscape at the bottom.
I would not recommend this dog food.
Was originally giving to my 9 year old dog because she has been on a salmon diet due to chicken and beef allergies. On top of sensitive stomach. Her original food (Purina pro plan sensitive) has been sold out due to Covid-19 wiping store shelves and online.. I had no choice but to get a different food. I figured I'd give this one a shot because it was affordable.
After a few days I started noticing wet spots on my couch where my dogs lay. And they reeked of urine but weren't very big.. I never actually saw my dogs pee on the couch so I didn't know what happened. This happened probably 3 times in 1 week. Finally my husband saw my dog get off the couch and go into the kennel and then noticed a HUGE wet spot on the couch which was definitely urine! She obviously knew she was in trouble too (she never ever gets in trouble, very well behaved girl) I chalked it off as she really had to go idk...
She's also been very gassy though. So I just kinda figured this food wasn't gonna work for us (before putting together it was causing her to pee herself)
So I mixed it with my other dogs food and decided to just switch her back to lamb food with her sister until shelves are stocked. Well I fed it to both of them today (prob 50/50 mix) I know it's not recommended to do it that way but my younger dog has never been sensitive to food before not even human food..
Well tonight our younger dog peed herself while sitting with my husband on the recliner!
Now I KNOW it must be the food !
How terrifying that after just one meal it can cause something like this....
Going in the trash for sure !
