About Rachel Carrington
I started writing years ago, and my first attempt was a contemporary romance that will never see the light of day. I think I may even have thrown it away by now. It was absolutely horrific as I knew nothing about well...anything to do with writing.
After that, I started writing fantasy romances about wizards and wizards, and once those took off, I segued to paranormal romances. Though I continue to write PNR, I do also write romantic suspense and young adult (although none of my YA books have been published yet).
I also write articles for various magazines, including The Writer's Journal, Writer's Magazine, Writer's Weekly, Writing for Dollars, Absolute Write, and Funds for Writers, and I teach for Women on Writing.
I'm fortunate to make my home in historical Charleston, South Carolina. Beautiful city. Beautiful people. When I'm not writing, I love to read paranormal romance, romantic suspense, young adult fantasy and paranormal, create videos, spend a lot of time at Hobby Lobby, and drink lots of coffee. I also run A Journey of Fives, a blog for single women.
The following books are available in audio: Vampire Cursed, Vampire Forgotten, Vampire Betrayed, Vampire's Fury, The First Spell, Waking Up Immortal, and Extreme Measures. If this is your preferred method of reading, check them out on Amazon!

Blog postChristmas is my favorite time of the year. I'm sure I've said that here countless times, but it never gets old. I'm one of "those" people that whip out the decorations long before Thanksgiving, and I start Christmas shopping in October. The one thing I do wait for is the music. For some reason, it has to be closer to the actual day before I start listening to it. With Christmas now a little over two weeks away, I'm in the mood! My playlist is ready, although this is just a sample! 2 days ago Read more

Blog postI travel by myself a lot, and when I say a lot, I mean several times a year. I’ve been to over half of the states, most of them traveling alone. At times, I have someone waiting for me at the other end of the trip, but the journey I usually take by myself, including a flight to Europe.
On one trip, I drove 900 miles all by myself, and I enjoyed every second of it as I traveled at the pace I wanted and was able to stop to see what I wanted to see. I always make safety a priority by let6 days ago Read more -
Blog postIt's that time of the year. Thanksgiving. The day when we're called upon to share what we're thankful for this year. The question gets asked on social media throughout the month, and usually, we can all offer three or more things that we're particularly grateful for. We say we're thankful for the sunshine, but we assume it's going to be there. We're thankful for our jobs, figuring we'll have them until we decide to retire. Usually, we offer our thanks for our family and friends, for love,2 weeks ago Read more

Blog postLadies, I’ll let you in on a secret that’s really not all that big of a secret among my friends. I hate to cook. Loathe it. I would rather eat peanut butter straight from a jar than to cook. Occasionally, I might scramble an egg or fry a hamburger, but those events are much like high-profile celebrity sightings in my neighborhood—rare.
It’s not that I don’t know how to cook; I do. I started cooking when I was eleven years old. I can follow recipes and even have a few of my own, but th2 weeks ago Read more -
Blog postI devour books like they're my favorite ice cream cones. And I don't just read the type of books I write. I explore when I read, whether it's an autobiography, a book of wit and wisdom, a middle grade novel, or science fiction. If a book looks good to me, I'll give it a shot. I think it's important to read, not just the new books that are being released, but the ones from years past that I've managed to overlook. That's where I usually find the gems. This month, I'm reading a young adult3 weeks ago Read more

Blog postPeople always start a new year with high hopes, dreams, and goals. They’re going to get into shape. They’re going to save a certain amount of money, pay off a credit card, or get a different job. It’s a new year so it’s the perfect time to start fresh. But it doesn’t take long for the newness to wear off, and then the excitement fades. Maybe we put too much pressure on ourselves simply because of the date. So what if we decided to start from where we are right now?

Blog postI'm honored that an article of mine has been accepted by Rooted in Rights which is part of Disability Rights Washington, an organization dedicated to making positive changes in the disabled community.
Disability is something with which I'm more familiar than I want to be as I was disabled in a car accident many years ago. And though I don't talk often about it, it limits my ability to do many things I could do before the accident, things that I took for granted. So this arti1 month ago Read more -
Blog postIf you’re living your best life with money to pay your bills, a roof over your head, relatively good health, friends and family you love, you’re probably not surprised to know there are people who aren’t quite as fortunate. It’s not difficult to see struggling people if you pay attention to what’s around you.
People don’t always have to be broke to be struggling. Adults who attend to their parents or special needs children 24/7 feel the pressure of having to be present and alert at al2 months ago Read more -

Blog postI won't lie. I get in the Christmas spirit early because it's my favorite holiday inside my favorite season. Give me winter and Christmas tunes, and I'm in heaven! While some people say it's too early to be talking about Christmas, I say it's never too early! I start shopping at the beginning of October, decorate my house on November 1st, and begin watching Christmas movies as soon as Hallmark starts showing them!

Blog postIf you follow any of my social media accounts, you already know how much of Downton Abbey fan I am. I've seen all six seasons a lot more than once, and so when the details of the movie were released, I could not have been more excited.
The movie opened on September 20th, and I bought advance tickets for the same day. And for two, what seemed like incredibly short hours, I immersed myself in the 1920s again with the familiar characters I've grown to love. And I don't regret a m2 months ago Read more -
Blog postOriginally posted in Funds for Writers by C. Hope Clark
This happens at every appearance I make. Someone hears me speak or hold a conversation, then they buy my book, saying, "I don't normally read fiction, but after hearing you talk, I believe I'd like to try one of your books." We then talk about which one to start with, and a sale is made. Hopefully a fan is made as well.
I already know you don't want to appear in public. Most writers don't. Frankly, I'd ra2 months ago Read more -

Blog postPeople complain. It’s a fact of life. We all do it. It can be difficult to focus on gratitude when our world seems to be crumbling around us. And the last thing we might want to hear is someone reminding us we have reasons to be grateful. That’s where the “buts” come in. You know what I’m talking about. You complain about your house needing so much work, someone tells you to be thankful you have a roof over your head, and you say, “yeah, but I might not have it long if I get laid off from my3 months ago Read more

Blog postOutliving Her Past is a book that is near and dear to my heart. I've wrestled with how I wanted to make this book available, and ultimately, I've decided to indie-publish it on February 15, 2020. I previously shared the first chapter with you, and it's up at Wattpad as well.
Though a romance is included, Outliving Her Past is mostly women's fiction. It deals with serious issues like racism, hate crimes, murder, and small-town prejudice. Because of how important it is to m3 months ago Read more -

Blog postLadies, it’s going to happen to all of us. God willing, we’re going to get older. There will come a time when you look in the mirror and wonder where those lines on your face came from or when those strands of gray started invading your hair.
In fact, this is what I posed on my Facebook page a couple of weeks ago:

Blog postWe've spent the last few days in hurricane mode as Hurricane Dorian targeted the east coast. It's now Thursday evening, and the storm has finally pulled away from our area and is headed toward North Carolina. Someone asked me why I would continue to live here when hurricane season is something I have to face every year. My answer was simple. Because this is where I live. This is my home.

Blog postI am a sucker for movies based on true stories. I actually didn't know that this one was based on Eric LeMarque's story when I pulled it up in my queue on Hulu. Eric LeMarque is a former hockey player who got involved in drugs and spiraled out of control. He had to lose his way to find it again. His story is heart wrenching, fascinating, and inspiring. The movie stars Josh Hartnett and Mira Sorvino who plays Eric's heartbroken, faith-driven mother who only wants to see her son have hope ag3 months ago Read more

Blog postI talk a lot about money and credit on this blog because maintaining good credit is easier to do than improving bad credit. Keeping your credit score in top shape should be an important part of managing your finances. Even the smallest mistake can put a black mark on your credit you’ll have to endure for seven years, and it’s easy to make such a mistake when you’re dealing with credit cards.

Blog postI’m not the first person to say we should all have a savings account. In fact, some financial advisors suggest that we have at least six months’ worth of monthly expenses in a savings account at all times. That sounds like a lot because it is a lot, and in a previous post, I talked about ways to reduce expenses to help you save. But seeing it in black and white doesn’t make it any easier. That’s what this post is all about—some easy (er) ways to fund your savings account.

Blog postA popular meteorologist in my area posed a challenge to his followers on Facebook. In one word, describe how you’re feeling today. Most of the responses were similar. Grateful. Blessed. Thankful. Happy. But one really stood out to me. The answer was underappreciated because she had no one to share her life with.

Blog postI believe everyone needs a creative outlet, a way to express themselves after the work of the day is done. Creativity doesn’t just engage the brain; it engages the senses and makes our lives happier. Courtney Carver of BeMoreWith Less wrote that “creativity helps you see things differently and better deal with uncertainty,” and “engaging in the creative process is a great confidence builder.” That’s just two good reasons why creativity is important.
