Top customer reviews
I'm glad there's finally decent competition for Bel/escort. I'm glad I picked this instead of the Redline.
There's two standout features with this detector that set it apart from all the other detectors I've tested.
1) The blind spot filtering is amazing. Filtering out false alerts on K band from other cars around you with collision avoidance systems, blind spot monitoring systems, etc., that's very tough to do and no detector can filter out all of them. This detector, however, is one of the very best around and the filtering on this guy is excellent.
2) It offers the ability to set your detector into what I call "Happy wife mode." At the press of a button it can mute all X and K band alerts but still show them on screen. While you'll still want to watch the screen and pay attention to when there's alerts around, if you've got your girlfriend or wife in the car who gets annoyed by your radar detector constantly going off, press the MUTE button on top of the detector and it will audibly silence every single X and K band alert you get and keep them happy sitting next to you. If you get a Ka or Laser alert, both of which are very high priority, you'll get an alert either way. This is also helpful for if you've got your family in your car, are on a phone call, are driving for Uber, or whatever else. I also use this feature when initially teaching my detector where the false alerts are. Let's cover that next.
There's a couple other ways of dealing with false alerts. That Mute button is awesome for muting your alerts temporarily, but you don't want to do that permanently. Instead you can use a few other features. When you come across a stationary false alert from a speed sign, grocery store, or shopping center, you press and hold the Mute button for 2 sec and it starts the learning process to learn where that signal is so that it'll be muted in the future. They had this feature on the Radenso Pro and Radenso Pro SE, Radenso's original detectors, and it didn't work well there. With the XP, they've finally got it figured out. Woohoo! Note: As of firmware US17, the RP and RPSE have working lockouts now too. :)
You've also got low speed muting which is more advanced than with other detectors, reduced sensitivity at lower speeds if you like.
Performance-wise, this detector performs well. It's not a top end performer like the Radenso Pro SE Radenso Pro SE Radar Laser Detector or Escort Redline Escort RedLine 0100025-1 Radar Detector but rather a more all-around detector with still very good performance and even better false alert filtering capabilities which make it a very popular choice.. not to mention it also costs less than the other two.
The redlight camera database is very good, it takes into account direction of travel so it only alerts you if you're traveling in a ticketing direction, and the database is updated monthly, you can individually delete RLC alerts if you like (I get some on the highway when I pass by intersections right next to the highway), the frequency display works properly now (unlike the RP and RPSE), it starts up and begins scanning for you super quick (as in like 1 second), it offers both a Beginner mode and an Expert mode, plus it offers something I've never seen in any detector which is a special Test mode which shows you exactly what the detector is seeing with no filtering and no latch so you can see exactly what's going on. As for their customer service should anything go wrong, it's some of the fastest and most helpful out there.
This detector is basically an evolution of their Radenso Pro and Radenso Pro SE detectors. Those detectors are more compact and the RPSE offers longer range detection which people driving in flat open deserts or curvy mountainous terrain would benefit from, but this detector brings a number of improvements over the previous series detectors. This one now has an industry standard RJ-11 power cable so you can use most any hardwire cable (like this one: Escort Direct Wire Power Cord for Radar and Laser Detectors) to get a clean and permanent install without using your cig. lighter plug, the frequency display now displays frequencies to 3 digits, the audio alert style sounds better and gets your attention better, the lockouts work properly, the BSM filter is better, and so on. Many of the software updates are being carried over to the RP/RPSE as well, but some of the things like the power plug and frequency display are hardware limitations and thus are something this detector will do differently.
If you like the idea of this detector but would prefer it not on your windshield as well, you can also take a look at the Net Radar. It was developed in tandem with the Radenso XP. The Net Radar is the remote version designed to be installed in your grill or behind your bumper somewhere while this is the portable windshield mount version. This XP is standalone and has built-in GPS while the NR requires the AntiLaser Priority laser jamming system to function as its brains (which is fine.. the ALP is the best laser jammer out there so you'll want to get that anyways no matter which radar detector you get for both radar and laser protection). The NR doesn't have a GPS built in the way the XP does so you'll have to use your phone and an app to get the GPS lockout functionality while with the XP, everything is built right into the detector so it's definitely the more straightforward option.
All in all, this is looking to be one of the best radar detectors out there. It's a good all-around pick offering both great performance and great false alert filtering. Definitely recommended!
The problem with radar detectors in a world of cars with collision avoidance systems is false alarms. The Radenso xp does a great job of rejecting these false alarms.
Radenso is on top of this technology filtering them out.
Include the GPS location manual lockout feature for stubborn stationary falsing from department stores and the like but with selectable City, Auto City, and Highway modes manual locking is not needed too often.
Don't forget Red Light and Speed Camera detection with free lifetime updates.
Great for Pro's with expert mode or beginner mode for out of the box to install protection. The unit is feature rich for tailoring it to our specific needs.
I replaced two 9500ix units with XP's. Product support is second to none and firmware updates are free also.
I installed the radar and got it set up pretty quick, only a few minutes looking through the menu and picking a few options I wanted to change. I kept it in beginner mode. I then went out on a drive... WOW what a difference 10 years makes. I am used to my 8500 going off like a tree full of birds. After 15 minutes of driving the Radenso was dead silent until it started indicating Ka and sure enough, in about 1000 feet, a cop at a gas station, drove past the cop and it went dead silent again. Even with stores on every corner with auto doors, GM, Lexus and Audi cars driving all around me, the thing didn't make a noise.
I'll update as I have more experience with the unit. But I'm super impressed thus far.
