Great value graphics card

I bought this graphics card as an upgrade to the 270 I bought when I initially built my current computer (4GHz i7, 32G DDR3, SSD, etc). Until the end of 2015 the 270 had no problem holding up to high settings on most games at 1080p. Unfortunately, the most recent games that have come out (titles like Assassin's Creed: Syndicate which wants over 4GB of graphics memory!) require quite a bit of graphics memory and a reasonably powerful card to play at the highest settings. When this card when on sale around Thanksgiving I decided to upgrade. I can now play all of the games I own at the highest settings at 1080p at a good enough frame rate where I haven't thought much about it. I've also used this in conjunction with the Steam Link and had good results. I'm wired to the Link over gigabit LAN now but I did notice a little bit of latency when connected to the Link over 5GHz wifi. Another reason I decided to upgrade to this card when I did is that Oculus had just announced their recommended PC specs... the 270 didn't make the cut unfortunately. While I obviously haven't tested the Rift on this card just yet I'm confident it will be able to hold up.

My only con for this card is honestly that I wish you could turn off the flashing light on the exterior of the card. You can see through my case in that area and the light happens to be in my line of sight. I'm not going to take off any stars for it but I really wish I could turn it off. It's not particularly bright though so if your case is opaque you'd be set.

I looked at various benchmarks before I purchased this card (and you should too, things change all the time!). I compared it to other Radeon cards as well as cards like the 970 from Nvidia. You can get slightly better performance in some areas from other cards in this price range but at the time I purchased this card the performance to cost ratio was the best I could find. I've only owned this card for a few months so I can't comment on the long term reliability but I've owned several other ASUS components and they've been of great quality so I don't expect this to be any different.

One other thing to point out is that this thing is gigantic. My case is also gigantic so that wasn't a problem for me but definitely make sure you have clearance for this thing before you purchase it.

EDIT:

I now have my Oculus Rift and this card is indeed enough to play everything on the highest settings.

Right off the bat I want to say wow, just wow. This is a monster of a card, both in terms of size and performance! I was debating on getting either this card or a gtx 970 since the 980 was out of my budget. I'm glad I made the choice of getting this one instead. As far as performance is concerned this card amazing through and through, I'm coming from a r9 280 to this and the difference in performance is very noticeable. On some games I'm getting almost double what the 280 is capable of, that's not to say the 280 is a bad card at all if your on a tight budget and can't afford something like this then I recommend checking it out at as well. Now on to cooling and heat this puppy can create. This card is hot, really really hot! Thanks to how ASUS has decided to cool this card with large heat pipes and 3 fan design it keeps things nice and cool under the heaviest of loads that I've been able to throw at this card. The only time I've ever heard this card ramp up the fans was when I maxed out anti aliasing and had it running for about a hour or so in a semi warm room (roughly 80 degrees or so). Now that these cards have dropped in price it's something that I can easily recommend to someone that's looking to build a high end gaming PC or someone looking for a well deserved upgrade to their current system. The software it comes with is also very nice and allows you over clock if that's your thing as well, the display on it shows everything you could need for overclocking or just to keep tabs on things as you play. One of the really nice things to see is the 0 db fan setting this card comes with, the fans don't spin up until the card reaches 60 degrees which is great f you want a completely silent system while playing less demanding games. All in all I would recommend everybody to look at this card and read some reviews on it and watch some YouTube videos to see if it's a good fit for them. It's a no brainier for me, i can't recommend this card enough to someone that's on the market for a worth while upgrade but can't afford the the best from AMD or nvidia.

Best 390 card out

Got this to replace my EVGA SC GTX 780. My 780 was starting to struggle with its 3gb of vram since I am at 1440p. I figured I would upgrade since almost all games today are using more then 3gb especially at 1440p resolution. I did not think the upgrade would currently be a HUGE difference but I am very impressed. The card got me out of that 40-50 fps range where AA had to be turned off and only on high some ultra settings to that clear 60-80 fps range AA turned up (not really needed so much at higher res) and ultra any AAA titles. Using asus strix software can see just about every game coming out using at least 4gb of vram so definitly was bottle necking. This is my first amd card in many years due to few reason but overall they are doing an amazing job drivers recently have been perfect (better then nvidia i would argue) and crumson software is awesome. I like it better then nvidia geforce experience and I was an nvidia only person for a while. The card itself asus did a great job. The asus strix software is better then the long top spot holder msi after burner. Great options and xsplit built in. Best gpu software I ever used. The card remains cool but if needed when you turn those fans up card will remain emtremly cool (better then my ACX cooled 780) but does sound like a jet. But under normal fan curve no louder then any other AM cooler. I was between this and the MSI card and very happy to go with the asus. Plus the STRIX own back plate and STRIX logo lighting up breathing looks great. BUT beware the card is massive probably bigger then gigabytes windforce cards so make sure it fits in your case! Any questions ask away. Not to much asus fault but card (390s) in general do not OC well but got mine at 1090 on core stable with only +10 to power increase and memory +75.
