In her New York Times bestseller, Radical Remission: Surviving Cancer Against All Odds, Dr. Kelly A. Turner, founder of the Radical Remission Project, uncovers nine factors that can lead to a spontaneous remission from cancer—even after conventional medicine has failed.
While getting her Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkley, Dr. Turner, a researcher, lecturer, and counselor in integrative oncology, was shocked to discover that no one was studying episodes of radical (or unexpected) remission—when people recover against all odds without the help of conventional medicine, or after conventional medicine has failed. She was so fascinated by this kind of remission that she embarked on a ten month trip around the world, traveling to ten different countries to interview fifty holistic healers and twenty radical remission cancer survivors about their healing practices and techniques. Her research continued by interviewing over 100 Radical Remission survivors and studying over 1000 of these cases. Her evidence presents nine common themes that she believes may help even terminal patients turn their lives around.

From the Back Cover
Discover the nine keys that can unlock your pathway to dramatic healing.
Kelly Turner, Ph.D., a researcher and psychotherapist who specializes in integrative oncology, gives the reader the results of her research on over a thousand cases of Radical Remission—people who have defied a serious or even terminal cancer diagnosis with a complete reversal of the disease. The results of this study, which focused on seventy-five factors, include astounding insights of the nine key factors that Dr. Turner found among nearly every Radical Remission survivor she has studied and an explanation of how the reader can put these practices to work in his or her own life.
Every chapter of Radical Remission includes dramatic stories of survivors' journeys back to wellness. The realization that the possibilities for healing are more abundant than we had previously known gives people concrete ways to defy the overwhelming prognosis of terminal cancer. This is a book for those who are in the midst of receiving conventional cancer treatment, who are looking for other options because that treatment has done all that it can, or who seemingly have no options left but still feel that the future holds the possibility of hope.
Kelly Turner's Radical Remission shows that it is possible to triumph over cancer, even in situations that seem hopeless. Encompassing diet, stress, emotions, spirituality, and other factors that profoundly affect our health and well-being, Turner's discussion of how our choices can cause the seemingly miraculous to happen will open your eyes to what is possible when it comes to lasting healing.

However, this book isn’t just for those dealing with cancer, but can apply to many health issues. Reading through these stories and the common traits that these survivors practiced - what I got out of this book isn’t just about fighting illness, but more about a blueprint of strategies to incorporate into ones life.
In 2012, I suffered a spinal cord injury, fell into a semi coma, and when I regained consciousness, was told I may not walk again. Certainly not to even think about it for a year or two. In hindsight, I think that was a code for “you’ll never walk again” due to the research I did based on the (no) progress I had made within the first six weeks. Not to mention a couple of doctors who actually implied that I wouldn’t walk again. However, within six months, I was walking with a cane, and though I still may not walk smoothly, I am at least walking without the need for a cane (truth be told, walking with a cane is easier for me, but it’s just such a hassle to carry one around all the time).
Anyways, while reading this book, I thought back on my own recovery and realized, I too, incorporated some of the strategies of this book. For the first few months after being discharged from the hospital, I watched a lot of comedies - I think I binged watched, “I Love Lucy,” and “Get Smart.” I also visualized a lot of myself walking. I set goals. I modified my diet. I did a “supplements” makeover. And though this was not mentioned in this book, but the sequel, “Radical Hope,” I exercised a lot to the best of my abilities. I’ve always been a visualizer and an advocate of nutritional supplements, so though this book didn’t give me the ideas for these strategies, it did reinforce my beliefs that I used some good strategies for my own recovery from spinal cord injury a few years back.
However, what I got out of reading this book, is that these strategies, which include practicing gratitude and mindfulness, isn’t just for when we are facing a health issue, but perhaps things we should practice as a matter of course.
If you are struggling to heal from cancer or any type of life-threatening illness, you owe it to yourself to read this book. If you love someone who is battling an illness, buy them this book.
I now ask all my doctors if they have read this book. So far only my amazing gastroenterologist has said yes. But I am pleasantly surprised to see the number of medical professionals who want to know more when I share the title with them.
Thank you, Kelly, for your ground-breaking work. Cheers!

Whilst it is very important to remember the complexity and heterogeneity of cancer, and how it resounds to treatment, it is interesting to see what is possible.
Now the reason behind the possible is a different story. Tumours can have a dizzying array of kinase mutations, and the response intracellularly to lifestyle/treatment is quite unique. So it is very possible that a person with the right kind of mutations in the right places, may respond to different things.
Caution- it is impossible to know how everyone responds to certain modifications in diet or lifestyle, yes there are lucky people that have did just the right thing, which was enough to stimulate their immune function or slow down/reduce tumour burden. But what has biological effect, also can have negative consequences. Say if someone was to go on a ketogenic diet melanoma. Certain melanomas can grow fast with the addition of ketone generation (BRAF type). This varied response is likely just the tip of variation. This is why clinical trials with diet are so terrible, finding the type and sub type of cancer that responds to certain macro nutrient ratios or phytonutrient ratios, would take a lot of death, before finding what works for who.
Late stage cancers may also have one weakness, that they are highly mutated, and may have developed an oncogene addiction to one driver, or group of. Altering microenvironment at this point, may in some people, cause remission. Tumours that have varied mutation drivers likely evolve and selection pressure will favour the resist sub types.
Read with an open mind, but remember evidence based BEFORE any anecdotes. Start with what you KNOW to be true, then work from there.
One thing though: everyone has their own way of coping, their own beliefs, and I DO believe in the placebo effect, but spiritual stuff isn't for me, so I had to discard the whole chapter devoted to this.
