I've been using this selector for over 6 months now, and it has performed admirably. I tried a couple of cheaper versions prior, which either performed poorly, or not at all. I needed this to be able to switch between my Blu-ray player and Cable box. It is a heavy, sturdy design, and I actually like it's looks (being all black). I actually have it behind the Plasma TV, so it's looks weren't a primary factor, but it was a definite bonus. If you're looking for an Optical Selector which actually does a the job, I would highly recommend this.

After trying a different switcher on the cheap ($7.00), I decided to spend just a few more dollars on this one. If I knew then what I know now I would have gone straight for this Digital Optical Selector. For those of you like me that have several "optical out's" and only one "optical in", don't waste your time with cheaper solutions. Just get this one.

Worth the extra money

In the days before receivers with multiple digital optical inputs were common (and not wallet-breaking), I was faced with 4 devices with digital audio outputs and one input. I went through a variety of different switches that I had to search high and low for and ended up with multiple swtiches in the style of the Nyrus SW100. I don't think it was exactly that model, but it was a similar style. I didn't have a single one of them last more than 3 or 4 months. More often than not, the dial would not click into the right position so you had to sort of jiggle the device to get the signal through. Lots of switching wore out the dial over time (I had to use it to switch from TV to DVD to Xbox to PS2, so I'd switch devices a few times a day at least). All of that headache finally went away with this bulky beast from Radio Shack. It's not pretty, it's surprisingly heavy, but it's sturdy and it got the job done for the year or so that passed before I upgraded my stereo. If you need a switch on the cheap, this is it.

Ok for a while

The thing is bulky and quite ugly with cables coming out of all sides of it. It did work fine for about 4 months with very light use, then it started acting up. I would have to wiggle the knob to get it to sync, and then it would be fine until the next time I wanted to switch to a different source. It lasted only a few more weeks and stopped working all together. Save your money and buy a powered switch.
