My wife wanted a radio for her desk at work that was a simple design and supported stereo headphones. This RadioShack radio seemed to be the right one. Received it at home and tried it out and worked great. She took it to work the next day and worked great again. So we threw the box away. On the third day, it would power on but the volume was so low, even all the way up, that you could barely hear it on either the radio speaker or headphones. But that’s not the kicker! Not only was the volume toast, it could not tune in ANY station anymore! Could not get any of the local FM, AM stations or even the weather. I don’t know what kind of cheap components the Chinese are using these days, but it’s NOT the components a “real” RadioShack device would have used years ago. You should avoid buying this radio. It’s not worth 39 cents, let alone 39 dollars.

Purchased for elderly relatives who need a simple radio with an analog dial and an on/off volume control knob. Good ergonomics although cramming the power cord into the back panel can be a chore. Otherwise it's the perfect old school AM/FM radio to use when puttering around the garden, workshop and home.
*edit - I bought this back in March 2018 for $39 and I see other reviewers paid around $20 in 2014. Now it's listed at almost $50. I'd assume that perhaps these aren't being manufactured by Radio Shack anymore so the price is rising as supplies dwindle. It's a great radio, no doubt about it but $50 is a bit pricey for what you get.

This radio works well and is very simple to use. It seems sturdy but I guess time will tell. It is everything I expected....nothing fancy. I bought extra batteries for the radio in case of emergencies. I like that it is both plug in and battery operated.

Got this for my dad as he loves having a small radio to move around the house. We put the batteries in (they were brand new) and a light would come on but there was no sound. After turning the dial on/off 10 times you would be able to get sound, but the second you turned it off and went to turn it back on again there would be no sound. Very disappointed. Luckily we were able to get a full refund.

The radio works very well. It can work with four C batteries or electricity, it has a cord with a plug inside. You can use with AM, FM, and to know about the weather. I recommend it !

Picks up AM stations that my other many radios could not, especially while indoors. I also wanted a radio that I could use with Alexa- meaning I could leave the radio set to "on" and set to a certain volume and station and tell Alexa "turn on my bathroom radio." And voila, Rush! Love it!

I like the look and the sound of the radio. Tuning with a knob works better for me than tuning with buttons, which don't always take you where you want to go on the dial. I wish the radio were just a bit heavier because it tends to slide a bit on the end table when I try to operate it. On the other hand, the lightness would be a good thing if I had to carry it around.

Solid, old style (good) looking radio, nicely built with solid feel to it. AM pretty strong, catching San Antonio KTSA (AM 550) in the afternoon. (NOTE: KTSA is my "reference" station to proof AM sensitivity, hence San Antonio is about 200 Miles away from my home). FM reception gets all stations in and around Houston. NOAA weather airband working satisfactory (many more expensive radios claim to have this feature, but actually don't deliver any weather alert station - this one does!) Added value: AC adapter built in! Pretty good sound - only issue: Tuning knob in current position too small for gentle airband surfing. Larger wheel or switching the location of volume knob (at the side) with the tuning knob would be better. Yes, I am a demanding radio collector and I guess that the knob "issue" is probably "nothing to bother at all" for most people.
At less than $ 20.00 a bargain & highly recommended and actually 5 stars at this price point.
