There is quite a bit of history, hard feels among some of the characters. Regan must be honest with herself and everyone else as to why she left like she did, that Adam is her son's father. Mark the doctor wants to have a relationship with her, accepting her son as his own. The person who was stalking her three years ago and threatened to kill Adam is still in town and has sent a threatening letter again. Reagan can't run away this time.
You will not want to put this book down. Ms. Remenicky has out together a very suspense filled live story. Looking forward to reading more from her
It is kind of hard to put this into a single category, but I think I would primarily call it a thriller (my other favorite genre) but the romance is prominent, second chance as well as rockstar, and there are some hints of paranormal floating around in there as well. Looking at that in writing has the words "hot mess" flashing through my mind, but trust me when I say it all comes together wonderfully. I literally couldn't put it down from start to finish (at 167 pages, it wasn't a real struggle to do so, but there were so many twists and turns that I was completely sucked in and didn't want to do anything but keep reading.)
The book starts out in high drama as Ragan returns home for the first time in 3 years in the midst of a blizzard. A deer in the road causes her to have a freak accident, and by a twist of fate, the man she was running from when she left - but who also still completely holds her heart - sees the accident and rescues her and her son.
If that's not enough, Adam's cousin, who is married to her BFF comes to transport her to the hospital and he is not at all happy to see her. Since she is having problems staying conscious, she doesn't have time to dwell on that, especially when the doctor taking care of her at the hospital is her twin brother's lifelong best friend - and he asks her for a date without questioning the existence of her son at all. And speaking of her twin brother, what exactly is going on with him? Believe it or not, that is all just the tip of the drama iceberg in this read, but somehow it never feels too over the top. As the story unfolds, it all comes together and makes a lot of sense. I can honestly say there is never a dull moment and I enjoyed every twist in the road. There was even time for some giggles and a guffaw or two along the way, and plenty of romance from both the rockstar and the doctor.
I will mention that this is the second book in the series, and as I have not read the first one (though I did purchase it before starting this review) I can testify that this can work as a standalone, but I am sure a few things will be a little bit clearer (especially in regard to the paranormal aspects) if one has read the first book. As I have given it 5 stars, I was certainly able to fully appreciate it without the background knowledge.
I will mention that I am not a big fan of paranormal, but the paranormal aspects of this book are fairly subtle for the most part and did not bother me at all. If you thrive on paranormal, you may find this one lacking, but if you are more like me and generally avoid it, you won't find it overwhelming.
It is a little odd for me at this point in the review to not put up any diclaimers or warnings about explicit or graphic content, but there is nothing in this one that I feel warrants any of those. It is a pretty clean read, but that certainly doesn't detract from the chemistry between the main players. Though there is a bit of a love triangle going on, there is no cheating.
I did recieve a copy in exchange for an honest review. I honestly was enthralled and look forward to more! There was a whole lot of story packed into the relatively short length of 167 pages. Though this was my first read by Ms. Remenicky, it definitely will not be my last. She has a lovely writing style that few authors master - she has a very full story with little to no extraneous "fluff" but no loose ends or areas that are lacking. No annoying red herrings. The "bad guy" comes as a surprise but not a complete shock. At the beginning of the review I mentioned all the genres the story touches on but I am very impressed at how well they all flow together. There is no real cliffhanger, but I am left wanting to know more about these characters. I am very impressed and most defintely recommend!
I have to admit, I was sold at ‘rockstar’ and ‘second chance’ romance, but this book is difficult to put into any category.
Filled with twists and turns, it also has paranormal elements in it. Although paranormal is not my favorite genre, this book completely drew me in from page one and didn’t let go.
Told at a breakneck pace, we meet our heroine, Ragan, returning home after a three-year absence with her young son in two. A freak accident puts her in the path of the very man she left town to avoid.
Ragan’s return opens a Pandora’s box: family secrets, competing love interests, will she or won’t she, and answers to my ‘what happened in the past’ questions.
This is the first book I have read by Ms. Remenicky, but it won’t be the last. She has a beautiful writing style and the ability to put a very full story into a short amount of pages.
There were plenty of giggles, guffaws, and red herrings to keep me entertained. The chemistry between the characters was fantastic and I am left wanting more.
Ragan left 3 years earlier with no explantion or good bye leaving Adam to wonder what it was that drove her away. 3 years later & she is returning to Fairfield Corner's for her parents anniversary party with her son, Skylar in tow. The weather takes a turn for the worse & soon she has an encounter with deer and ends up in the river. With no time to settle back into small town mentality her past is thrust upon when her scorned lover Adam comes to their rescue.
Adam can't believe she's back and expects some answers. Ragan has a deep dark secret that she's knows will have to come to light but she must guard her heart against Adam again in order to kkep him safe.
Oh man the twists & turns in this book. It just came together so beautifully.
Will these two work out their past issues & see what is right in front of them.
Definite must read book!!!
