Everything else aside, this was an album that apparently set a standard for how good production could be. So why exactly would you remaster it? It appears that Vlado Meller, infamous for his over-compressed and clipped mastering of Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Californication," remastered this album, and, judging by the waveforms, we now have a CD that's a victim of the loudness war... in 2012.

Long story short, if you buy this album, don't buy it for the remaster, and, if you have an older version of the CD, hang on to it!

In 1992 Rage Against The Machine released their self-titled debut album which would go onto inspire and influence and entire generation of bands and people. Muse's guitar virtuoso Matt Bellamy has often said that seeing Rage Against The machine perform at the 1996 Reading Festival was the moment he knew he wanted to be in a band. It's an album full of powerful political themes provided by the rap vocals of Zack de la Rocha, incendiary riffs from the brilliant Tom Morello who makes the strangest sounds from his guitar, at times it can sound like a turntable as well as being backed by a powerful rhythm section of Bassist Tim Commerford and Drummer Brad Wilk. It is an album that has stood the test of time and was heavily influenced by the likes of Public Enemy, The Clash, the Beastie Boys as well as both Tom Morello and Tim Commerford having a love for Canadian Prog rockers Rush.

Twenty years on and the album gets the real deluxe treatment available in a variety of formats from a basic re-mastered edition to an ultimate 5 disc edition. It probably depends on the level that Rage mean to you as to which edition you want. If you are a collector it's the deluxe box set edition you will want. It's packed to the brim including of course the original album re-mastered as well as the vinyl version of the original album. Out of all the ten tracks on the album there is no filer from the opening track "Bombtrack" to the explosive climax of "Freedom" and everything in between including guest spots from Tool's Maynard James Keenan and Jane's Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins on the excellent "Know Your Enemy".

What better way to RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE of capitalism than to release an expensive box set for mass consumption?

It's the re-release of their first album, which is great. The additional tracks are OK at best and really I could have done without. The DVD is weak with just a few live songs. Don't feel like you are missing anything without this set. I would say you could pass on it.

This. Is. Sick. They brought the bass guitar up just a small enough notch to be noticable. It has a clearer, heavier vibe to it in general. If you hear it and you listened to the original until the cd wore out, youll know what i mean. The bonus disk was awesome. It had a couple songs from a "live and rare" import album that i paid $35 for back in the day. Also, the original versions of some of there songs are a bit different, solos are different and some intros.

Simply an amazing box set collection, 2 DVDs with concerts and music videos, a demo tape (which is quite frankly awesome!), a cool poster, a 40 page booklet, and the first RATM album released to be the public. For the price, you simply can't beat it, if you are a RATM fan.

Authentic!! love this album and every single song, they have great grooves, powerful riffs, this was the perfect mix, rapping singing, hard-rocking tracks, punk, hip-hop etc. I only give 3 stars for the following reason, Sony/legacy's packaging system stinks, there is no way to get the cd/dvd without scratching, especially the firts and third disc, because the cardboard is too tight . For someone who wants to preserve those cds in perfect condition, here it is impossible.

I usually don't justify re-buying a Cd I already own, thankfully a friend borrowed the original and neglected to return it so I justified buying it again. Great edition. I love the DVD, getting to watch their classic videos. So raw and full of emotion. The demos CD is awesome too. It's interesting to hear how some of the songs evolved.

Worth buying again.
