About the Author

In the early 1940s, a loving father crafted a small blue wooden engine for his son, Christopher. The stories that this father, THE REVEREND W AWDRY, made up to accompany this wonderful toy were first published in 1945. He continued to create new adventures and characters until 1972, when he retired from writing. Reverend Awdry died in 1997, at age 85.

I have seen King of the Railway multiple times, sometimes back-to-back. I thought this book would be an excellent movie tie-in, and was let down with the way the illustrations were layed-out. First of all, when Stephen "The Rocket" is first unveiled in the book, it is smack dab in the middle of the spine, so you can barely see it is him. Having known this by watching the movie - he should have clearly been visible.
Next, when Stephen "The Rocket" is "trapped" in the mine, they show the wooden chest, which assumedly contains the golden crown - and you think they would show a big picture of the golden crown on the last page? NOPE, it is next to the Earl of Sodor's podium, in Word-equivalent font size of "2".
The last page is a let-down - play up the golden crown - it was the premise of the story!

Bummed by this. My kids, particularly my younger son (just turned 2) LOVES the movie and loves Stephen. This book edits a lot and takes liberties and simply doesn't capture the story in the movie. Certainly understand that editing is necessary, but this really loses the essence and is off focus.

As I always say about Thomas, if your kiddo is Thomas-crazy, this isn't a horrible buy. But of all the Thomas books I've bought, this is the worst, especially if your child loves the movie. But as usual, you as the parent will probably mind more than your two year-old =)

The purchase was smooth, I received the DVD fast and in great condition. My 3 yr old son loves Thomas the train but for whatever reason was impartial to this DVD. Which is surprising because he watches the recorded TV episodes several times a day. He watched this DVD and was excited to have it but seemed unimpressed throughout and never asked or cared to watch it again. I think perhaps the story line was over his head.

I bought the electronic version of this book and it just doesn't look right. I expected to be able to flip each single page, instead, it doubles up pages on your screen so you have to view your device (ipad) horizontally to view it properly. Also, I felt that the story ends a bit abruptly.

My 20month old son loves trains, so this book is right for him. It's very simple in the plot and in language. there are variety of emotions going through the book, so we are glad, sorry, worry, excited and so on together with the trains - nice stuff to teach co-feeling.

When receiving the book, He looked at it and yelled Thomas!! Then walked away LoL. He loves the cover of the book. I love it all. So colorful and the story is interesting. To me. I will say that he does sit still and allows me to read half the story.

He's only 2 so i do understand why he feels the way he does. I like it though

This is one of my son's favorite Thomas books. It is good quality, the pictures are bright and engaging, and the story line is interesting and flows well. I like reading it and my son loves listening to it. It is relatively short so makes a great addition to our pile of books for bedtime reading.

I like it, but it is a little long to read to grandson at naptime or bedtime as he likes me to read several books--one just won't do for him.
