Designed to uplift. Made of a single sturdy piece of aluminum, mStand transforms your laptop into a stylish workstation with its elegant curves and silver-anodized finish. The single piece design solidly holds a laptop while the aluminum panel acts a heat sink to keep the laptop cool. A cable hole in the back of the stand routes wires to reduce clutter. Ergonomics Long-term use of a laptop as the main computing device can strain the body as the user hunches down to see the screen and type. mStand raises the screen 5.9 inches (150 mm) to meet the user's eye level, thus promoting better posture, while its tilt design brings the screen closer for easier viewing. With an external keyboard andmouse, mStand creates an ideal ergonomic desktop setup for laptop users. Compatible with all sizes of Apple MacBook, MacBook Pro. Also fits most 14" standard PC and 15" widescreen PC with depths not more than 10.4 inches.
Used without original box but in great shape!

Cosmetically, the ring in the back of the stand is loose and keeps popping out. I can tell that it's just not nearly the same quality as those I've had before. I can see that the opening in the back was formed poorly or the plastic was molded incorrectly (it looks like both) as there are wavy gaps at the seam of the plastic and the metal stand. There's also a deformation in the milling where the circular opening is too. It's only cosmetic, but I've never ever had that ring pop out on the other stands and this one has separated 3 times in the first 10 minutes of handling it.
To Rain Design, Either you have changed fabricators to cut costs or your fabricator has cut corners to increase its profits. Your product is showing signs of slack in production quality. The stand is no longer premium and if I had this knowledge before I purchased, I'd have found an older mStand instead. I no longer have my original stand and I believe the opening as a soft molded rubber rather than plastic trim, but I cannot examine to validate. Having a comparison in quality that spans over 3 years of mStand products, I can see the difference and I'm disappointed. Images and video included so that all can see I'm not exaggerating.
UPDATE (2-22-18): I'm still using and loving this stand, although the cat no longer fits under it so easily.

Update: What I can describe as the front pads that protect the laptop from rubbing/bumping the front aluminum have started to come away and loosen. I'm not sure if that's normal but it's now effecting my ability to place the laptop down and not worry that I will damage it. Will try and reach out to resolve the problem.
Update 2: After my attempts to contact email@example.com in regards to any sort of support on the issue I am having, I have not received a single reply from their customer care department. It looks like after the product is shipped, the warranty might as well be non existent.
Lifts the screen by about 17cm/6.75", and has an overhang (~6.5cm/2.5" deep, ~7.5cm/3" high) allowing laptop and keyboard to overlap a bit. Overall, puts the laptop much more into my usual eyeline, and lets me have it a bit closer than normal. (Perhaps a bit more height wouldn't hurt, but I'm at the taller end of average (187cm/6'1") and don't have long legs.)
* aluminium construction looks nice, feels solid, and matches the Macbook
* decent ergonomics (see above)
* swivel base rotates easily
* shape very sensibly includes a lip to hold the laptop steady - some products seem to rely purely on having grippy surfaces for the laptop to sit on, which (call me old-fashioned...) I suspect won't prove as reliable in the long run
Less good points:
* it may only apply to the swivel version, but I'd say you definitely need an external keyboard and mouse - there's no wobbling if you're typing on a USB keyboard, but if you try to use the laptop keyboard it becomes apparent there's some give in the stand and a bit of play in the swivel mechanism
* the box claims the stand is a good heat sink, but since the metal of the laptop never actually makes contact with the metal of the stand I suspect it will prove ineffective
I'm happy to give this 5 stars - but if you're especially tall and/or don't use an external keyboard and mouse, it might not suit.
(Also note that it's a single piece of metal and doesn't fold at all. If you're thinking of putting it in a bag, better make sure that bag is big enough...)
There are rubber feet on the stand to prevent it from scratching your MacBook. Unfortunately, the height and angle are fixed, so cannot be adjusted. I can also confront that it holds the 12" MacBook perfectly, too. Highly recommended if you need a quality stand and are okay with the non-adjustable positions. I personally am very happy with my purchase.
Given this, I would usually give the product a five star rating, but marked it down on this occasion for one reason only: the dimensions given on the web page say that it is bigger than it actually is...
If you are looking at this for a 15" laptop, I'd suggest it would be fine, go for it, but if (like me) you are looking at it for a 17" laptop, beware! the front to back dimension of the angled plate that your laptop sits on is in reality less than advertised on the webpage, meaning that my laptop kept tipping and falling off the back of the stand...
So, a good design and beautifully solid materials - so a notional five stars for anything up to 15" laptops, but I'd suggest avoid for anything bigger.
