About the Author
Virginia McClain is an author who recently stopped daylighting as a Spanish teacher in Arizona and switched to writing full time in Winnipeg, Manitoba. When she's not writing she can often be found climbing to the top of large rocks, running on trails, backpacking, and generally engaging in any excuse to go play outside. She lives with her husband and their furry, canine companion Artemis.

Having completed most of this book during an afternoon flight, it is a fast-paced read that can be read cover to cover in one sitting. It’s the also the kind of book that readers desperately need to pay more attention to, as short stories seem to be a dying art - at least, in fictional sales. But like myself, there are readers out there who will enjoy being able to visit a story from start to finish in the short time they may have to read in the midst of their daily lives.
My favorites from the collection were The Wolf Mage, a romantic fantasy - and Blade’s Edge, a sample from a historical fantasy novel. These stories had intriguing characters who wielded magic or had powers, and piqued my interest with their description & air of mystery.
A short story collection worth visiting for many readers, Rain on a Summer’s Afternoon is a good, quick read at any time of the day, and has reminded me of the importance short stories play in our reading (and for writers like myself, writing) - lives.
