Aside from the overarching plots, I like that each of our three protagonists has their own issues and lives to deal with. Aki is very much coming to terms with her powers and how to handle them, with a little help from a giant floating eye. Keisha has to watch her back at every turn among the other Light Essences, especially when one of them seems to have a personal vendetta against her. However, she may have found a new ally in a certain asexual incubus. Blake faces his own nature, just how far he will be forced to go under the deal with Gastion and some developments in his love life, all of which seem to be related in one way or another.
As before the story is peppered with smart humour and fun pop cultural references that, if you're anything like me, will have you grinning like an idiot every few pages. This book also continues the idea of "earn your victory" with Aki, Keisha and Blake constantly training together and in their individual fields to better their chances of survival in the battles they face and the ever-imminent war.
Last but definitely not least; best epilogue yet!
