I loved this book I feel it helps young children start to deal with and understand their feelings. A good read to young children.

A good children's book needs to be many things to be successfully enjoyed by a child. First, the subject should be appealing, with a setting and details with which any child could identify. Next, it should be visually appealing, especially if intended for younger children. It should allow for enough predictability so the child can sense a pattern, increasing involvement in the story. Lastly, it should be simple enough to encourage discussion on the child's level.
"The Rainbow Pants" - written by Kelly Brooks-Bay and illustrated by Lindsay Weirich - does all that and more.
The theme of the book is that people have different feelings, and that those feelings change. In this story, the main character, Peter T. Peacock, discovers that sometimes he is grumpy, sometimes scared, sometimes happy...and a variety of basic human feelings. The message of the book affirms the normalcy of these feelings. Peter's mother shows him that his choice of clothing colors reflects his feelings.
The writing is charmingly straightforward, perfect for young children. The illustrations are gorgeous. As a mother of three grown children, I could well imagine reading this to (or with) a child and asking, "What do you think will happen next?" and getting lots of answers and giggles.
A lovely book, a five-star rating, and well, I think I'll go put on my happy, sunny, yellow pants.

This is such a great book. Wonderful book to re-aloud to kids. My four boys loved this story!! They are now getting dressed every day telling me they are wearing their "silly pants" or "grumpy pants". I have never seen my kids take a story and put it into their real lives, like The Rainbow Pants did for them. Thank you!!!
