Ex-Navy SEAL John Clark has been named the head of Rainbow, an international task force dedicated to combating terrorism. In a trial by fire, Clark is confronted with a violent chain of seemingly separate international incidents. But there is no way to predict the real threat: a group of terrorists like none the world has ever encountered, a band of men and women so extreme that their success could literally mean the end of life on earth as we know it.

Tom Clancy is America's, and the world's, favorite international thriller author. Starting with THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, all thirteen of his previous books have hit #1 on the New York Times bestseller list. His books, THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, PATRIOT GAMES, CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER and THE SUM OF ALL FEARS have been made into major motion pictures. He lived in Maryland where he was a co-owner of the Baltimore Orioles.

This really good action novel, however, suffers from too much realism. Our science can create such book threat, though the delivery technology is there, yet.
This is far different from the first John Clark novel. While I would like a more familiar sequel, this current book does contain the sense of connection between the 2 entries in the series...but only just.
Mr Clancy seemingly had a pet project, pet concern, which he dealt with, here.
*The 2000 Sydney Olympics are a major plot thread, so that element dates the book just a bit, but otherwise things stand up well. One of my favorites in the series.
But this is not the only story that has John Clark (then John Kelly) as the main character. He first appears in "Without Remorse", telling his back story. That book even has Jack Ryan's father, a police officer, in it. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that book also since it tells who he is\was and how he became a C.I.A. officer.

Possibly Tom Clancys best work, rainbow six follows the creation and operation of the worlds most elite/secretive fighting unit - Rainbow!
It’s tense, descriptive, and well written.
