This is not your typical PA book. It is dark and dismal, as one would expect after worldwide financial collapse, natural disasters and pandemics. While there are glimpses of the early days, most of the story takes place two generations later.
Reading the author's vision of the decline of civilization was almost too painful to bear, yet sadly, very probable. The characters are flawed, yet brilliantly written. The setting (Vancouver area) was the perfect choice for this grey book, as most scenarios took place in the rain and fog of winter.
Finally, reading all three books together gave me the feel of reading an epic novel. I highly recommend this compilation for anyone who is interested in reading about people attempting to survive insurmountable odds.
I borrowed this book via Kindle Unlimited. I see that there is also a prequel (novella) which is not available through KU. Wish the author would have included it in this compilation.
The trilogy is quite the long read, but anyone that enjoys post-apocalyptic stories will have to like this.
The best thing that I found in Morgan Nyberg's series is NO ZOMBIES! Mostly gut-wrenching survival in a very tough future.
I do recommend that you read The Fixer before starting this trilogy. It will give some insight of the events leading up to this.
Well done Morgan!
