Not only does it work perfectly, it's a breeze to install. First, I bought plumber's tape. Then, I removed my existing shower head. Then I wrapped the threads with the plumber's tape, a few wraps, making sure I had "just the right tension" and was wrapping in the direction of the threads and therefore the direction I was going to be screwing the filter and shower head back on. Clearly, working with a hand-held ought to be in this item's product description.
The entire installation process took only a few minutes. There were virtually NO leaks! Plus, I've had it now for a few weeks and already my skin isn't dry any more and my hair is holding healthy moisture.
You may ask why two stars and the answer is simple. This is September 2015 and I have been trying to figure out why, for the last month, the water seems to have been leaking from what I thought was the connection between the pipe and the filter. I was busy and simply turned down the water to prevent water from showering my surrounding floor and walls thinking that I had to make the time to check it out. Well, I did that today and lo and behold, the Rainshow'r CQ-1000-NH has developed a thin crack along the bottom of the filter. How does something like that even happen. It's not like it is taken off and on. We don't abuse it. We don't beat it with shampoo bottles. We don't do anything but take showers. The only time it was taken off was to replace the inner filter and yet the housing itself is cracked. Was this housing really built to last 15 months? I guess so because that is exactly how long it lasted and we are very disappointed.
My husband has Super sensitive skin but insists on very hot showers which leads to him itching like he has fleas at his ankles so I put one in his shower and no more hearing whining about itchy skin "no matter what lotion I use" either.
I educated myself on the subject when my wife's skin recently become very adverse to even the smallest amounts of chlorine, and this filter has changed her life. Filter life and performance is a function of water flow, shower duration and frequency, and the quality of the water. It's like using a napkin to clean up a smudge or an oil spill. We are in north Texas where the water is supplied from the lakes. Ten months out of the year the difference in chlorine content of the water in and out of the filter is barely measurable, yet due to her sensitivity, and perhaps other impurities, her skin can tell the difference. In the summer, when the city has to treat the water more aggressively, this filter is up to the job, and puts a large dent in the chlorine content. With any filter of this type, the lower the flow, the better the results; the more time the water spends in the media, the more impurities removed. For example, one should keep the flow restrictor in the shower head. If your chlorine content is really high, you could place two filters in series.
