It's been five years since Olivia Harmon lost her husband and young daughter in a car accident and she took up residence in Hattie Hopkins's boarding house. Five long years of feeling lonely and out of touch with God. Olivia knows she needs to get on with her life, but it's not as easy as it sounds. Then Zach Springer comes barreling into her life- literally- as well as three orphaned kids who need her desperately. Suddenly, Olivia's finds her life blessed by unlikely gifts from God. Zach Springer is a widower, too. Losing his wife as well as the baby they were adopting left a hole in his heart. In a freak accident, a mudslide sends his truck crashing through Hattie's house and lands him right in Olivia's lap. His first impression is that she's an angel. The more he gets to know Olivia, the more he thinks his first impression was right. In this delightfully quirky story, Olivia and Zach bumble their way through a new relationship, foster parenthood and a stronger relationship with God. Suzy Pizzuti is well-suited to comedic writing and readers will find themselves smiling through most of the story. Hattie is especially endearing with her special brand of prayers that seem to come true. The hardships Olivia and Zach have faced make the humor all the more touching and poignant. Raising Cain... and His Sisters is part of the continuing series of Halo Hattie's Boarding House. After this taste of Ms. Pizzuti's wonderful characters, I'll be looking forward to her next visit to Hattie's boarding house! Funny and heartwarming! A charming story about faith and love! Suzy Pizzuti has a way with words- she turns them into smiles! Raising Cain... and His Sisters will leave you feeling good! Inspirational romance has a true star in Suzy Pizzuti! From the Inside Flap
You've heard it said, "Be careful what you pray for." But it may also be a good idea to be careful "who you ask to pray. Because when folks like Hattie Hopkins talk to God...anything can happen! Stuck in the semi-reclusive life she's built for herself, Olivia Harmon is still recovering from the tragic loss of her husband and daughter five years before. Though she loves her job at Vermont's department of tourism, she longs for something more-so she asks her landlady Hattie to pray for a little volunteer work for her to do.
Things don't work out exactly as she had planned, however, and soon Olivia finds herself bursting out of her carefully built cocoon to undertake the nurturing of three rambunctious street children. Even her heart seems out of control, causing her to fall for Zach Springer, the handsome handyman who rode a mudslide right into her sun room. Can a woman so accustomed to self-imposed solitude adjust to a new life, a new love, and the new challenge of "Raising Cain...and His Sisters?
