Tom Lichtenberg is a conundrum. On the one hand, his story lines and use of prose is extremely good. Yes, I could grumble about the few typos sprinkled through his books ("their" rather than "they're" sort of minor auto corrects), but overall I find that his stories are quite engaging and quite good at drawing me into the characters and their stories. HOWEVER.

I am so very confused as to his consistent (habit? device?)of leaving his story ends unfinished. I know I'm not alone. You settle down for a good read. "Aha!" you say to yourself, "Finally! I have suffered through the chaff of the lower priced Kindle books to have found a treasure!" And proceed to devour the book. Or books, as it usually is a series of books. It's great fun. UNTIL THE END. :(

You are ultimately left hanging at the end like a bewildered monkey at the end of a long climb up a very promising banana tree, only to get to the top to find...there are no bananas. Sure, the climb was fun, but-WHERE IS MY BANANA!

If you like your endings to be at least somewhat satisfying, don't bother with this book. It had me totally and completely hooked. Coming of age stories are my favorite and this one had everything to be the perfect coming of age story.

*Spoiler Alert!*

But then there was that horrible, unsatisfying end that leaves you no clue where the boy will be going next in his life. Is he completely destroyed? Is he now armed for bear? Can he overcome? Will he revert? Worst ending ever. I kept looking for another page, maybe pages were missing? Maybe I didn't get the whole download? Nope. It was all there. And all of it engaging, right up until BLAH!

This was a very good story, that kept me reading page after page, even when I had other things to do and needed to put it down. The only reason I cannot give it five stars is due to few spelling and grammatical errors scattered throughout the prose -- which always jars me from the narrative momentarily. In spite of those problems I must recommend this story to everyone who enjoys reading.
