Upon first post, motherboard only detected two of the three SSD's, and did not detect the optical drive. Replaced new (ASUS brand) optical drive with another working optical drive from another PC and same issue. On post got a debug code AE (Legacy boot event) There are many posts on the net about this code with the ASUS board, and unfortunately no fixes. Board looks pretty, but is not up to the usual ASUS standards. Agree with most posters, ASUS technical help is worthless to non-existent. I checked all cables, memory, Video card for defects including proper seating. Gave up after spending several hours of troubleshooting. Can't load a OS without the optical drive. Returned to Amazon for refund.

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your feedback. Sorry to hear about the disc drive detection issue. Were they connected to the red ASMedia SATA ports by any chance? These are labeled as SATA6G_E1 and E2 (last two ports on the port stack). These two ports do not support disc drives, only data drives. If the Intel SATA ports were used, there is high possibility that it may be cable related--either the SATA power or data cable. Please try a single hard drive (your SSD) connected to each of the SATA ports and verify drive detection in UEFI to retest. If you have any questions or would like to continue support, please feel free to contact me at cl-benson@asus.com. Thank you.

This is the 4th PC I've built from scratch. My previous one was built 1st quarter of 2007. It was an Intel Core Duo, or Duo Core, whatever. So with this machine, I bought the best of the best. And it is one of the fastest machines out there today.

So let me start off by saying, this motherboard has everything you could ever want, except firewire. It has plenty of USB ports on the back, and it has plenty of USB headers on the motherboard itself. I was able to connect up my USB 3 and USB 2 ports on the front of my CoolerMaster HAF X case. I was also able to add a front mounted memory card reader with an extra USB port using one of the motherboard headers, and I even had an un-used USB 3 header on the MB, so I bought a back bracket from ASUS themselves. So I think in total, I have maybe 15 USB ports on my machine, that are directly connected to the motherboard itself. No Hubs used here. LOVE IT!

I opted for the Corsair liquid cooled H80 system. So far, so good. No problems with over heating. Seems to stay a nice 25c under normal load. I haven't checked to see what it runs while in BF3 yet.

Since this thing has 8 DIMM slots, I bought 32GB of ram. Overkill for most of what I use the machine for, but will come in handy when I work on big After Effects Projects. I've always been bottle necked in the past by memory. My files get so detailed, that I can only preview a couple seconds at a time. So I an anxious to get a new After Effects project to see how this really handles.

I've run the Windows 7 64bit performance test, and everything runs at 7.9, except for the processor. It runs at 7.8. Kinda disappointing. But still faster than my 5.2 system previously.

Which brings me to the biggest gripe.

Okay, generally ASUS has done fine by me but I have to admit to being frustrated with this board. It has locked up three times and done the blue screen data dump. By the way everything on automatic. I have not even tried to push anything as far as OC. The SATA refuses to recognize any more than two hard drives internally. The eSATA on the rear of the board refused to acknowledge my external drive but did at least acknowledge it in the front. However when I tried to transfer data it locked up.
So now the ASUS representative will log in and tell me how sorry he is and promise an RMA number if I only go to web site “XYZ”. No slam on the rep intended. This will take at least a month of time (not to mention the hastle of the whole thing) for a problem that I don’t think I should be having in the first place. I owned an ASUS card previously and had none of these issues and was very happy with the board for years. I bought this due to the lack of problems I had with the last board.
Frustrated…….

This is my fifth Asus MB:

***Pro's
1) This is definantly a MB for Over-Clockers and Tinkers; it has lots of single function controls within the BIOS setup screen.
2) Onboard Audio and LAN features built in. I normally don't use them due to quality issues (don't last) but for now I will due to cost savings with my build.
3) Overall I am pleased with my purchase; booted up error free the very first time.
4) This board was extremely easy to assemble into case having average to moderate computer knowledge.
5) Ran Benchmark tests using Prime95 (v27) for CPU and FurMark (v1.10.4) for GPU's (nothing OC):
CPU = ~25c no load and ~56c full load @ .5hrs
GPU = ~35c no load and ~58c full load @ .5hrs

***Con's
1) One on board Fan & Temp jacks are no longer accessable after installing a 120mm CPU water cooler on back of case (push-pull config).
2) Did not anticipate that there are no IDE connectors on this MB, so you will need to prepare to buy a new SATA Optical Drive as well.
3) Still trying to figure out how to get the on-board Temp and Fan sensors to display on the desktop for easy viewing.
4) No 3.5" floppy drive support is available on this MB; yet Asus manual requests that you use a floppy drive to install certain drivers while installing OS F6 key) to enable RAID SATA configuration.
5) Ram Banks A1 and B1 are blocked by 120mm radiator (push-pull config) and will not allow a Ram Cooler addition.
6) Extra eSata jacks needed on back panel.

My current build:

OS - Windows 7 Ultimate x64
MB - Asus Rampage IV Formula
CPU - Intel Core i7-3930K (3.
